linear equation please help

25-[2+5-3(y+2)]=-3(2y-5)-[5(y-1)-3y+3]

What the hell are these brackets????? I'm trying to help my friend with his pre-cal, but I havent taken it in years. I was wondering if any one here could help me remember what these brackets are for.

theyre just like normal brackets.. the [ is used to differentiate from the ( set though.

Brackets are separators like ().

Just think of them as another set of parenthesis. But do the parenthesis first, then the brackets.
