Looks like Lineage II is getting close to launch date. A new website is up and pre-order boxes are in the stores. I've never played a massive multiplayer online game, but this one looks really cool and I'm tempted. Apparently uses the Unreal II engine:

Anyone else planning on this game?

I m waiting for World of Warcraft.

As are most of the people I know who play mmorpgs. If that doesn t make it out by summer when everyone get s back from school...

Then its UO Old School IPY Server

So far any mmorpg (and I have played far too many) can compete with UO pre-renassaince.

Hopefully, this player run shard can live up to the expectations.

If WoW can t and this shard can t...I don t know what I ll do

I am looking forward to L2

I was originally looking forward to WoW but then when they were finished releasing the races and classes for each I wasnt very satisfied at all. Also when I learned that you cant group with the opposite faction (some of my friends want to be elves and some tauren/undead). But the big thing that got me is when I was on the Blizzard forums and all the little 11 - 14 year olds were talking about how excited they were and/or starting threads that SERIOUSLY said

"HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO GET 12 DOLLARS A MONTH I AM ONLY 13!"

I wouldn't be surprised it L2 has it's share of tiny boppers, but I like the look and feel of what I see so far in L2. It should launch sooner, but I'm not sure of the date.

Every game has its share - the question is can it even come close to the market size blizzard has. If you log onto Bnet you have been subjected to WOW advertisement. Every 6th grader and his older brother knows about WOW :)

I might try Lineage 2 if it comes out soon. But since I know a lot of people who are going to move from Daoc to WoW, I will likely wait.

To get off the topic briefly...Has anyone ever seen a statistic of the average age of MMORPG players? I may be off, but I would think the majority of them are 18+. Age doesn't guarantee maturity, and I've met a few "normal" teenagers, but I still think it would be nice to have an 18+ server for WoW. Or maybe I'm wrong in thinking that most of the beggars, thieves, and village idiots are kids. :D

Daoc and Wow, now you are speaking a language I never heard. But I've never played MMORPG's... only standard mplayer rpgs like IWD, BG and NWN. Guess I'm an oldfart lightweight gamer, but still a gamer.

LOL at the comment on kids!

I'm playing the Japanese open beta right now. It's fun, for sure. Continents are pretty big and I have no idea where to go, but it's fun killing the Keltirs and the Goblins and Gremlins.
:)

Also, most of the quests and chat and tutorials and such are in Japanese which makes the game harder to learn as well. There are a lot of nice Japanese players though, some who speak english, too, and they've been helping me learn the game better.

I think I'm definitely going to pick it up when the full version is released in North America.

My first MMORPG as well.

Any idea if there will be any pvp or pking ? If there is I might be game...

Seriously.....? That may not bode well. But the way I figure it, if there is any type of non-consensual pvp system in place, it just means more sheep... :)

there is plenty of pvp and pking in lineage, there is also fair penalty for pking so its not going to end up like shadowbane where everyone just kills everyone

I think they found the average age of a gamer was 25 or so, and i dont worry about the kids because they usually never make it too far, or if they do they arent usually much of a match to deal with. (and they have a habit of ticking everyone off anyway)

The open beta should be starting soon, however currently the only way to guarantee a spot in it is through preording it from ebgames or somewhere. Though right now it is uncertain if they will eventually just open up the open beta to everyone. If it goes by the same as the boxes, then lineage 2 will realease at the end of april

Theres gotta be at least 25+ classes available, and it sounds like even more for once people reach level 60 later on. They have pets, summons, and later on dragons you can raise from pups to ridable to flyable (though the last is very hard to obtain). They have castle sieges which are supposed to later involve catapults and such (a siege golem which is about 50 times as tall as the people can be created by a dwarf). If you want any more info about it check out l2orphus
