ok, i have 2 phone lines. if i pick up the main phone (1st line), i can hear what the other person is saying on the secondary phone (line 2). And this is even worse when i play online games. I might be fine and dandy with a ping of 300, but when someone calls, BOOM, SPIKE SPIKE SPIKE. What's up with this? I connect to the internet on the second phone line, which no one outside of the family knows about. But when people call the other phone (line 1), i spike lag mad. what can i do to fix this? and i'm about to get dsl soon, and i think i'm gonna get some slowdown when someone calls in...

if there are two seperate lines they shouldn't be interfering with each other. I strongly suggest you get your telco out and get them to inspect the lines...

Be forewarned tho: if it is a problem with the wiring INSIDE your home you will be charged up the a$$ Unless perhaps the telco did the wiring themselves recently, then you might be able to whine your way out of it

most often the phone company will use the same line for two lines in a home.
tele wire is 4 wire cable, standard phone only uses 2 wires, they can wire a second line and still use only one line, this usually doesn't hurt anything though.

What is most likely you're problem is the phone company is running out of lines between their switching stations, I had a GTE guy tell me once that they can get up to three seperate lines on one pair of wires by multiplexing them and this causes all sorts of problems for fax machines and nodems because of the noise it creates. Most phone companies will get you on your own line if you report problems.

They are only responsible for voice quality lines though, so if you whine about your online gaming they might turn a deaf ear. I had to call a few times to get my line noise fixed and made sure I told them it was the voice quality that was bad. I went from a bad 19k to a decent 40+ which isn't bad for out in the woods.
