Line In not working. I have tried everything and I have No Sound!!

I have tried everything folks. My line in simply will not work. I desperately need to record some sounds to .wav format by TOMORROW and after 6 straight hours of hell, I have nothing.

My system is an AMD 1.2 (266fsb) on an Iwill KA266 with on-board sound. ATI All In Wonder video card, 256mb Ram, 40gig WD hard drive, Toshiba 16x DVD, Plextor 16x CDR. Win98SE.

I can capture video with the ATI AIW, but NO SOUND.

I cannot get sound through the line in using Windows Sound recorder or GOLDWAVE. The Line In is selected under volume properties and it is NOT muted. There is no reason why I should hve no sound, but I do not.

HELP PLEASE!

UPDATE: I think my problem is that the Iwill KA266 uses the CMI-8738 sound chip and right now my Line Input is configured as the Surround sound output. But there is no way that I can see to change this in Audio Rack or the mixer or in the Control Panel.

Any ideas?

Make sure Line-In is set for recording.

1. Click on the microphone on the taskbar.
2. Go to Options -> Properties
3. Under "Adjust Volume For", click on Recording
4. Click OK
5. Under the Line-In bar, click Select.

Close the window and everything should be fine as long as you tell your recording program that you are going to be recording from the line in.

I've got it working, but the sound is recorded terribly muffled. Now I have to tery and fix that.

It's never easy.

The line-in audio probably has to be amplified. Using the mic line will amplify it somewhat but the sound will come out with a lot of the low freqs missing.
