Line in/Line out question

I've noticed that many cases now come equipped with mic/headphone jacks in the front right next to the usb/firewire ports. Where do these jacks connect to on the motherboard? How do you know if your motherboard supports the connection? Also, if you have speakers plugged into your sound card do these jacks take first priority? The reason I ask is because I'd like to utilize these ports upon purchasing a new case, but I'm not sure if I am even able to. I have a headphone jack, but I really need the line in jack for my mic. If anyone could shed some light on this or point me in the right direction I'd be very appreciative. Thanks.

I have an Asus A7N8X Deluxe and I'm looking through the manual at the moment. I found something that says "Front Panel Audio Connector," but I am uncertain as to what it is. Is this what I am looking for? Or should I continue looking?

Yes, you connect the cases audio jacks to the "Front Panel Audio Connector" pinouts on the MB.
