Line 'etched' into monitor; replaceable?

A few months ago, without any known cause, my 21.5" ASUS monitor (http://bit.ly/gexUSx) developed a line on the right side, spanning about 1/3 of the way across the monitor and very thin in width. There was no mistreatment of the monitor in any way, and it seemingly appeared out of nowhere. Some pics to show the damage: (http://i43.tinypic.com/xbe9f4.jpg | http://i41.tinypic.com/2qslv.jpg).

Now, is this something that should be covered by some sort of warranty on ASUS' end? Will they replace the monitor for me? Or should I skip the complaint entirely? It's not the biggest deal imaginable, but for something that is >$100, it sure jumps out at me a bit.

You're much more forgiving than I. If my monitor had a defect like that, it would be RMA'd immediately.

Get ASUS to replace it.

yeah that's a hardware problem and they should replace it. probably one of the row drivers has gone wonky or one of the tiny contacts on the glass is coming loose.

Looks like a trace lift. You can't fix that home. Should be covered by warranty.

Question.. do I actually have to call ASUS before filling out an RMA request? The request form didn't have any section for a description, and wouldn't seem to let me advance without filling in a case number.

That would drive me nuts.

Call them, they should RMA it right over the phone. Get them to cross-ship you a new one.

I sent this out in the beginning of the month and had it back to me within two weeks. They replaced the screen. All is well!
