My version of waiting in line was setting my alarm for 3am, clicking the pre-order button, and going back to sleep :awe:

probably jobless people, but considering the preorder sold out in 1 hr I can imagine why people might be lining up.

For the 4s and 4 where you had a day to get on the preorder, you would've been retarded. But this I can semi-understand.

Shit, I wish I had preordered one. Going to take my chances Friday on picking one up during lunch.

the funniest part is apple could just give everyone in line a refurb 4s for $600 and everyone would leave thrilled.

I don't get it..... having the latest and greatest phone 2 weeks earlier really doesn't impact anything. I understand wanting to have it, but bad enough to go stand in line for days etc... no.

if you don't have a job, i think it's better they do this than be a couch potato.

but for those who want it and have a life, I can understand going the night before or at 6am in the morning.

people do it though. they feel superior when they have the technology first. "ohhhh man, i got the new shi*t! yeaH i got it at 12:01 last night! nobody has this yet!"

its almost like they feel that they designed and made the phones themselves.

Waiting for anything anymore is so very confusing to me. Don't get me wrong, I loved waiting for my PS2, GTA4, Maddens, etc.. I loved midnight releases, but then it just struck me... Why am I waiting when nothing will ever be sold out ever again. Sure, I have to wait an extra week if the store I want to buy it from is out of stock, but I have a billion other places to purchase <insert item>. The company making <item> has a supply chain that can keep up with demand now, and if not, instead of waiting months, at most I'd wait a couple weeks to a month.

All in all, I think it's pointless to wait for a device in general. The people in line aren't even actually there for the iPhone 5 (personally). They're there to promote themselves/business/music/whatever.. according to an article I read.

People will do anything for little media fame. If the media and the blogs didn't report on those in line and didn't interview them, we wouldn't see people camping out one week in advance. But then we couldn't point and laugh at them either.

And like most technology, people rarely know their ass from their elbow when it comes to using it.

I've only sat in a few lines in my life. Dreamcast, Halo 2 and iPhone 3G.

Not a fan.

I can understand waiting day of if it's an hour or two. Waiting a week is idiotic.

I think companies and the broadcast media could do so much more to take advantage of the people standing in line at product launch. In fact they could make it into some of a game with rules which would require endurance and strategy. Not like the current lame system of who ever gets there first. Rule #1 should be if you leave your place in the line for any reason (bathroom break, food run, etc) you automatically go to the end of line. No exception. You can have your own personal support team bring you food, water, remove your personal waste, etc, but you cannot leave the line yourself. This would make things interesting and someone could do reality TV or Web show for YouTube something with daily edited show/footage of the interesting or manufactured drama. Sort of like reality game show. The payoff could be additional products and cash to the winner and the runners up.

never underestimate the stupidity of the american public

there is no prize for lining up for something as stupid as a phone or a movie, everyone is gonna have it in a week or 2, its not special

Well... to be fair it's more like "a lot of people will have it in a week or two". But the pre-orders sold out and so if you're not one of them or one of the people to get it by lining up, you won't get it for 2 months or so.

But if it was me, I would tough it out for 2 months and get it then. I really hate lines.
