Is there a site that you can download this for free
I don't wish to pay for it just to see how good it is.
If I like it then I will pay

No, you cannot download it for free, only illegaly. I have seen a copy, and it just looks like linux with wine, I didn't get to play with it much though... The install is stupid, they gear it up for a 5 year old, but IMO a 5 year old shouldn't be using linux...

Lindows is a linux base it is free to down load but if you are after the book then you pay ?
just the same as Redhat Suse Mandrake and all the rest

You can download RedHat and use that. You can install Wine and pay for WineX or whatever. It will have everything but any closed source applications the lindows company came up with.

well I will stick with SuSe 8

Any modifications they make to GPL software has to be open. Anything else can be whatever license they want.

So how come Lindows isn't free?
Is this a violation of the GPL?
SuSE at least provide net install.

I'm pretty sure GPL only requires a finished product to release it's code...

So you mean it will be available freely when it releases?
Now that Walmart is selling PC with Lindows installed, does that count as "finished product"?

If it's based on Linux then any modifications they make have to be made available in the form of source code.
They don't have to make their proprietary binaries available at all.

So, where is their source code?
I hate Lindows!

1. Do we know for sure (ie 100%) that GPL licensed software was modified?
2. Does their beta testing really count as realeasing it or is it still considered internal?
