Oh, and like I said above, Debian packages work fine on Lindows, so if it doesn't have OpenOffice, just do apt-get install openoffice, or use Synaptic to grab it.

I should also note that the DE doesn't seem to come with Mplayer either. I could not get streaming radio using the DE but, I do get it using the "LiveCD" version of Lindows.

apt-get is your friend. Login as root. go to a console window (or do run command type console in the box). Type:
apt-get install synaptic <enter>
Confirm the install.
At the console - once again as root, type synaptic and hit enter. Search on MPlayer. Select it. Click install. Click execute, and you have Mplayer.

If you want to play with Linux I'd recommend downloading a Knoppix ISO. Lindows is not "real" linux, and while extremely easy to use it has lots of flaws becasue of its "simplified" linux model, for example thre is only one user and that user is always root, which has some dire security repercussions.

Not sure it is not real
seems as though both Lindows and Xandros are well recieved by at least a few

Incorrect. In fact, the first window you see has an Advanced tab that lets you set up other users that are NOT root.

Thanks for the tip. I think I'll give synaptic a try. I've got my installation "ghosted" so I'm ready to proceed without fear! In less than two minutes, I can be right back were I started from. I just love that Norton Ghost program...

Hey, its my pleasure! As for Ghost, yeah, its saved my ass a couple times now. Especially with MEPIS - its much harder being stable when *everything* on the system is beta...

I tried the cd demo (the one which lets you run off the cd) and couldn't figure out how to setup the network. After about an hr of trying, I gave up. Bah I just wanted this to play around with. Don't really have a use for it and past attempts to learn linux all failed so doubt i'ld put much use in this software. I just wanted it.

No joy here with synaptic. :(

When I run " apt-get install synaptic"

I get

"Couldn't find package synaptic"

Any ideas?

I offered to host it as I have the room, but it is legal for me to do. If it is someone PM and I'd be glad to setup a ftp account for you to upload. I am on a emtpy servermatrix server and have a ton of bandwidth to waste.

Well I figured out my synaptic install problem. The file /etc/apt/sources.list has two lines commented out (by the Lindows engineers?) that need to be un-commented in order to make apt-get work. Remove the # sign from the begining of these lines::

Before:
#deb ftp://ftp.us.debian.org/debian sarge main contrib non-free
#deb ftp://non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US sarge/non-US main contrib non-free

After:
deb ftp://ftp.us.debian.org/debian sarge main contrib non-free
deb ftp://non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US sarge/non-US main contrib non-free

Then, I found out the hard way, run:

apt-get update

Then, finally, run:

apt-get install synaptic

Good luck.

Ugh... I was downloading the Torrent and I got 2% done and it's crapping out on me. I don't think anyone is sharing, because I finally reconnected on the 4th try and I'm at 2k down/2k up.

People with completed file PLEASE share!

It's the LindowsLive version they are now offering for free.

"LindowsLive allows people to run a Linux-based operating system from a CD, without installing it on their computer. The product previously retailed for $29.95 and was also sold over the Internet in a form that could be burned to a CD."

Well, since they are going to put it up on p2p networks, I think I could host it... if anyone has the "live" version and wants to upload it to my server I'd gladely host it.

Sounds like the LindowsCD. I guess people were mistaking it for the install disc rather then a bootable OS on CD.

LindowsLive! version 4.5.212 Direct FTP Link. (Copy & Paste, Don't Link)

ftp://279442:ea31306e4835c307cca7c1d2a74841ec@130.94.123.212/lindowslive-4.5.212.iso

This .iso is used to create a LindowsLive! disk. LindowsLive! can be used to try LindowsOS on any machine that can boot from a CDROM drive. LindowsLive! is basically LindowsOS that runs from the CD. You can not install LindowsOS from this CD and Click-N-Run will not work with LindowsLive!.

I just DL'd Burst and Shadow. I'm trying Burst now with no success on getting your iso.

Where can I learn more on BT? Is there a way to browse available torrents such as P2P's and newsreaders allow?

Thanks
