Lincoln bringing back the Continental

I think this is a major step in the right direction for Lincoln. Let's hope it's RWD based and the final form keeps much of the design intact. I think they could have made the front a little more reflective of the long legacy of the Continental and more stately. I understand that the trend is not in favor of retro styling these days, but a little more angularity here and there I think would serve this design well. But I am impressed and I think Lincoln needs something like this in a big way. My hunch is a slightly less posh version will be eagerly gobbled up by the town car market that has been wanting since the demise of the Town Car. Fleet sales can't be a reason to carry a flagship like the Continental, though, so I appreciate that the prototype they're showing is emphasizing the luxury element. I wouldn't mind sitting in that cabin and whoosing along in silence. And it has the trappings of a big American cruiser, more soft than svelte. Many of us aging children of baby boomers in our 30s and 40s actually want to drive our grandfather's Lincoln or Cadillac.

This will be all ecoboost but I can't help but think it would be nice to see a large naturally aspirated V8 with an 8-speed transmission hooked up to the rear wheels for this car. Lots of torque and power combined with all that mass and deadening sure makes a nice drive. The last thing Lincoln needs to do is try to compete with BMW or Cadillac with the Continental. This car is designed to school cars like the Hyundai Equis and Kia K900.
 
Looks good, although it really makes me think of a Chrysler 300 with a dash of Acura RLX (or maybe Audi?).

Not liking the grille that much though, would've preferred just bars with the Lincoln logo (although I'm guessing maybe they felt it too much like Buick if they did that). And all that chrome in the interior...just no.

I second all of this. I'm 33 now, in a few years I could absolutely see myself in something like this. If they go through with this I could see them going with a v8 in at least one version, sort of how bmw has several levels of the 7 series.
 
Meh. Overall body is pretty non-descript and then they went way overboard with the chrome. Reminds me a lot of Cadillac that way. Too much shiny stuff that looks great in product photos, but quickly looks like crap in real life once you get finger prints all over it, etc. Not real interest now, but ask me again in 10 years once SDC are a thing.

Lincoln is in need of something. For years now they've just been an upgraded Ford trim level, and boring as hell. Cadillac has really stepped up their game and Lincoln needs a good response. I was disappointed that the Mark X concept never went into production, but I can understand that the market for a huge coupe is limited. Still, they need a showcase car or there's really no point to Lincoln existing. You might as well buy a loaded Taurus.
 
Looks good. My only concern is that the shape is pretty uninteresting. The wow-factor is all in the details, like the head/taillight clusters. That kind of detailing is the first thing dumbed down when these concepts go to production. Hopefully the production model doesn't end up boring.
 
Depends on the price. To me it looks like a Jag on the exterior.

Interior looks amazing but Knight said it best that when this goes to production the cool stuff about this car will be missing. Or the cost will be astronomical for a Lincoln/ford.
 
the narrator actually called that concept car "understated", and gives the impression the production car will include all that trim including power reclining rear seat with footrests and tablets on chrome robotic arms. what an asshole.

I agree. too much chrome, nothing particularly exciting about the design. looks like hyundai

This is especially hilarious coming from a guy who just took an Aston Martin, stuck four round lights on it, and called it a Bentley EXP 10.

Ooh a Tablet! 😱 😀

Could definitely use less chrome, but it seems quite nice overall. Seems more like a cheap Bentley than other cars mentioned, especially with all the creature comforts.

Doesn't really strike me as a Drivers car, more like a Passengers car. A rather niche market.

Also, for those crying about this looking like a Bentley, have you seen a 300?


With that said, I do like the look of this. If it was a bit less rounded, I'd like it even more.
