Didn't the GOP raise Holy Hell about Clinton doing this ?
I remember them saying at the time that they would never do anytrhing as crass at that,
since they were the Party of Unquestionable Intergrity. (When it suits their purposes)

This is different . . . most of these people have long term relationships with George . . . in addition to raising hundreds of thousands of dollars. Some of the people the Clintons hosted in the Lincoln bedroom only knew them for a decade or so.

In all seriousness, it's not out of the ordinary for Bush's big bucks friends, business partners, etc gave him mad money AND just happened to get a White House invite. By the same token, maybe this practice should be put out to pasture for ALL administrations.

If think this is impressive you should see the list that hang out with Cheney at the VP residence.

thats just revisionist history.
the republicans never said anything of that sort.
he was simply helping out his fellow man, offering a place to stay for his down and out, fallen on hard times good friends. it was never about 'money' or 'donations', it was purely an altruistic gesture. bringing a bed to those people that havent slept in a bed in 30 years. i love the 'honor and dignity' our fearless leader has instilled in the white house.

I think most presidents have done this. I am not exactly sure why they jumped on President Clinton for it.

There was such a visceral hatred for Clinton that the GOP would leave no stone unturned. I mean . . . the GOP accused Clinton of trying to sell out to the Chinese . . . you know the country with the bombed embassy.

From the Christian Science Monitor:

"Bush fund-raisers among overnight guests

Posted: Wednesday, March 10, 6:47am EST

President Bush opened the White House and Camp David to dozens of overnight guests last year, including foreign dignitaries, family friends and at least nine of his biggest campaign fund-raisers, documents show.
In all, Bush and first lady Laura Bush have invited at least 270 people to stay at the White House and at least the same number to overnight at the Camp David retreat since moving to Washington in January 2001, according to lists the White House provided The Associated Press.

Some guests spent a night in the Lincoln Bedroom, historic quarters that gained new fame in the Clinton administration amid allegations that Democrats rewarded major donors like Hollywood heavyweights Steven Spielberg and Barbra Streisand with accommodations there.

That scandal and Bush's criticism of it is one of the reasons the White House identifies guests. In a debate with Vice President Al Gore in October 2000, Bush said: "I believe they've moved that sign, 'The buck stops here,' from the Oval Office desk to 'The buck stops here' on the Lincoln Bedroom. And that's not good for the country."

Bush's overnight guest roster is virtually free of celebrities - pro golfer Ben Crenshaw is the biggest name - but not of campaign supporters.

At least nine of Bush's biggest fund-raisers appear on the latest list of White House overnight guests, covering June 2002 through December 2003, and-or on the Camp David list."

Hypocracy indeed.

The Repubs hated Clinton because he "stole their issues"- whatever that means, and delayed their onslaught against governmental solvency and successful New Deal policies for eight years. But they're back in the saddle, today, spreading fatcat taxcuts, subsidies and regulatory changes as far as the eye can see, selling the country's fiscal soul to the devil.

They also hated him because he used their own tactics against them in terms of fundraising, rather successfully. And they hated his wife desperately, because she wasn't a Laura Bush clone, a woman who knows her place and keeps to it...

This isn't anything new, or shameful at all. Being Prez obviously means you get to spread it around, share the fun with your friends and supporters. Nothing wrong with that. Pointing the finger at the other guy and then doing the same yourself reveals flaws in character that would best be kept out of the Whitehouse, for the good of all Americans...

Because the Clintons didnt disclose the list of guests. Bush has disclosed the list of guests. Theres still a slight difference between this and what Clinton did.

Clinton IIRC(correct me if Im wrong) let a chinese buisnessmen to stay there, and then Gore accepted illegal campaign contributions for Clinton-Gore '96, from said chinese buisnessmen. The GOP wasn't bitching about people like sitting Governors, former ambassadors, current administation members and life long friends who fundraised. They bitched about certain people, not all.

Two of which are sitting Governers, and one a current adminstration member. As well as a former ambassador.
