Hi,

I have a Dlink DGL-4300, this has the ability to handle 1000 concurrent connections.

I do alot of gaming on my machine and there are two other machines in the house that are p2p machines.

I have limited the maximum upload speed to 10k, one machine can upload at 3k the other at 7k.

I leave the download bandwidth to whatever as it never seems to affect me.

I have 10mbit download, 384k upload.

Should i limit the number of connections that p2p programs can use. Is it worth me setting a limit of around 300 connections on each, leaving me 300 connections to play with.

Or is it unlikely that this is going to cause me a problem when gaming ? ?

Also two machines are using the 10 max half open connections and my machines is allowed 100 half open connections.

What do you think ?

I would have invested in an enterprise router than than the DGL-4300 but thats just me. Are all computers directly connected to the router? What p2p software do you use? Why are you using two seperate machines?

There are 3 computer direectly connected to the router. An xbox 360 and a PSP connected wirelessly.

I use one machines and two other people use P2P machines, they are out of my control. What i dont want to happen is for me to have to wait to be able to connect to something because they are taking all the available connections.

One person uses Utorrent, the other uses Bitcomet.

I have selected maximum global connections in Utorrent to 400, the best option in Bitcomet is max connections per task. I have this set to 25, he usually has more that 9 open at once.

Is this a good idea to be on the safe side. The router has never crashed or anything like that but i would like to be in total control on my network traffic.
