Just in the past hour I have booted up my main rig and found no ethernet connection will work. I am posting from an ancient dell that I had around.

I cannot access the internet or even my router from the machine in question, every other computer on the network is fine. The router is an Asus Wl-500g Premium v2.

My motherboard is an asus m2n-32 sli deluxe 570. It comes with 2 ethernet ports built in, port #1 which has never worked, and port #2 which I have always used.

Tonight I was using my computer hooked up to a TV, which I do all the time. When I hooked it back up to where it usually goes, and booted up there was limited or no connectivity. I threw all the ipconfig stuff I knew at it, and nothing worked. I messed in the bios to boot with one, or both of the ports and controller. I even put in a PCI ethernet card. I still get limited or no connectivity. To top it off, I have just recently done a fresh install of Windows XP pro, SP3.

I am at my wits end already, this is the first time it has acted up like this.

I've seen this message when the dhcp server in the router/modem is down. Try rebooting it. Just to get everything in sync turn everything off for a minute or two. Turn the router back on first and then the pc.

There's an ip that can be used to view the status of the router from a browser. On my bellsouth/westell modem, it's 192.168.1.254. Others use 192.168.1.1, etc.

The wireless adapter in my recently replaced laptop did that for the last 3 months or so of its life. I never was able to figure out what caused it, but I always had success by just disabling the adpater then renabling it.
