Limited or no connectivity

For some reason I can't get my laptop to work with my linksys wireless router. None of my roommates have any problems connecting to the network with their laptops but when I try to connect with my laptop it won't find the ip address and it says "Limited or no connectivity". The laptop connected to my netgear router back at home just fine. Any thoughts? The laptop has an AT&T Plug&Share 108mbps PCMCIA wireless card and the signal is connected at full strength.
 
run cmd

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew


let me know if that helps if not I will suggest some other stuff also have you tried it wired? Does it work then?
 
ah. turn off the 108mbps thing in the cards properties.

networkconenction> the adapter in question > properties >properties for the card at the top of that box > go to hte device options, find the 108mbps option and turn it off

doesn't work. also internet works fine when I hook it up with an ethernet cable.
 
How about instead of getting an IP from the dhcp server just specify an IP (one that's not in use) and specify the gateway and dns servers as the IP of the router.

If that doesn't work then check your ssid and wep key (if you have that enabled).

If that doesn't work then make sure the router isn't set to only allow specified mac addresses (if it is then you will need to add your mac address).

Ok, I got it to connect by manually configuring everything but it still doesn't seem to be working. I can't access any sites. I know I don't have the router set up to only allow specific mac addresses.
 
1. turn of WEP or WPA
2. turn off AMC address filtering

try it

if it doesn't work, just use a static IP and set your DNS servers to 4.2.2.1 and 68.48.0.13

ok well I turned off WEP and it worked. that is no good though, I can't have my wireless connection open. thoughts? I had WEP enabled on the router at home and it worked correctly.
 
w00t! I got it to work. I removed all the security crap from the wireless settings and I copied and pasted the key from the router page and it worked! It's only connecting at 2mbps, but at least I can connect.
 
the "limited connectivity" thing is ALMOST always related to encryption problems (i.e. mistyped keys). It's because you are able to ASSOCIATE, but then you cannot decrypt/encrpyt the traffic to get an IP.

Hi guys -

I'm having a b**** of a time with the same "limited or no connectivity" problems...

I bought my netgear wireless adapter WG111 for my desktop, and after minor hiccups during setup (had to install just the driver and not the utility from the CD) things worked fine for about 2-3 months.

Now, I've had problems for about 3-4 weeks now. I've tried multiple reboots, reinstalling the drivers, windows restore to an earlier date, "repairing" the connection in windoze, locking my router into 802.11b mode at a specific channel to minimize interference--occasional success, but not sustained. I have also tried turning off WEP, which doesn't help; plus, I get nervous leaving my wireless *completely* unsecured (like walking out on the street with no pants on)

I should note my laptop and my Pocket PC have never had such hellish connection problems.

Any thoughts?

i'm not sure about netgear utility, but I normally prefer the 3rd party utility, but I usually use Intel/Atheros/Broadcom stuff. Broadcom uses lots of WZC stuff (or used to, they are moving away from that).
 
as an update:

I also have tried the netsh command, and other tips on microsoft's knowledge base article 892889, to no avail.

I was just on a phonecall from hell with a netgear call center rep named "John" who had no last name or employee ID, but no worries - he's the "only John" on his floor (right....), and he refused to issue an RMA of this product "until I try it on another computer first." I was ready to rip my hair out...
 
Hi guys. I am also in this nightemare with "Limited or no connectivity". Brief description: 3 computers - 1 desktop connected by wire, 1 desktop and 1 laptop connected wirelessly. Router - D-Link DI624 running DHCP. Wired computer has no problems at all. Wireless desktop is Dell Dimension 3000 with D-Link DWL-G520 card. Laptop is Dell Inspiron B130 with Dell 1370 wireless built-in. The desktop is able to connect and get the IP address no mater what security I use on the router: Open WEP, WPA PSK TKIP, WPA PSK AES. The reason I have tried so many different ones on the router is because the laptop is not able to get the IP address assigned at any of them. If the security is disabled altogether, then it connects but it is not the way I want things to run. I am not using proprietary wireless utilities on any of the computers, but instead configure encryption through the windows wireless config. As I said, no mater what encryption protocol I choose on the router and then apply the same to the Dell desktop, it connects and gets the IP. Nothing, short of no encryption, works for this brand new laptop. It is 2!!!! days old!!! Was there anything added to windows very recently that I should remove to enable the ecrypted wireless communication. It was shipped with XP Home SP2 on it. Also, this is the most puzzling, I was able to connect to a different router that has Open WEP as encryption without a problem as soon as I added the key and index. And yes, I have typed and retyped the keys some many times, my hands hurt. There is no way there is a typo! I have released and renewed and rebooted numerous times as well.

Please HELP!!!
 
Do you get an IP address on the wireless computer?

If not then it is almost always an encryption problem - mistyped keys, not using the same kind of encryption on the access point and client, etc.

If that doesn't work, download the client utility for the dell card and use that instead of windows. select WPA-PSK and use a key that is easy to writedown/remember.

As I said, no mater what encryption protocol I choose on the router and then apply the same to the Dell desktop, it connects and gets the IP.

what if I was able to connect before and just recently I'm not able to (limited or no connectivity)........ didn't change any WEP key, didn't change any config............ then why the hell I get this freakin' message! 🙁


 
I've seen clients "forget" their wep keys.

It means you're encryption is not correct. Try re-entering keys on the AP and the client making sure they are exactly the same (easy to mistype)
