Limit RPM of default AMD AM3 heatsink?

Worst thing about this heatsink besides the noise, is that it seems to blow air out instead of in. I overclocked from within the BIOS. Any i have the following

AMD 1055t overclocked to 3.2ghz at 1.35 volts
Gigabyte UD2H 880G Micro Atx Motherboard
4GB G.Skill Ripjaws ram at 1530+ mhz

I installed the "Easy Tune" software that came with the Mobo's cd, but it doesn't do anything in changing the fans RPM.

Maybe the fan got installed wrong from the factory. If it is blowing air away from the heatsink instead of onto it, that would probably hurt temps quite a bit.

Anyway, your best bet would probably be an aftermarket heatsink. What are temps like w/the stock heatsink?

There are heatsinks designed for fan exhaust - you can tell those by seeing that they have a guard across the heatsink to keep the input air coming in only on the far side of the HS from the fan.

like the good ole alpha PAL8045:

i'll try and put more paste on it. i yanked out the stock HSF to test out a 5 year old thermaltake venus heatsink which just made things worse.

Its reaching 62c at full load 🙁

EDIT: Putting arctic silver all over the CPU didn't seem to affect it that much 🙁

What makes you think that 62c under full load isn't acceptable? I assume that "full load" means something like prime95.

Are you sure that you connected it to the correct header? Some boards have it at unusual places.

I still don't see a problem. Your cpu is hitting its max safe temp under an unnatural and sustained load. You will rarely if ever see that kind of sustained load in real world use. Are you seeing high temps during normal use?

This is my board

What sucks even more now is that while i play the game GTR2,a resource demanding game, my temps are only 4 degrees higher... at just 47C. is this normal?

Yeah i used Prime95 to benchmark it.

But what's killing me right now, is the constantly loud fan, which sounds the same way even at 60+C, with temps at idle of 42C!!

Just an FYI you don't want to be using a lot of TIM, just enough to barely coat the CPU once it is spread out under the sink. TIM is still less conductive than metal, and will act like an insulator if it inhibits direct metal on metal contact. If the coolers fan is to loud for you, I would just replace the cooler with one that takes 120mm fans instead. See if you can find the hyper 212+ somewhere, frozen cp and newegg are charging twice the msrp for it but frys has them in stock again now if you're near one, price is $29.99

i decided to remove much of the excess thermal paste, and also placed the 120mm at the back of the case on the side of the antec 900 case, since the videocard was releasing alot of heat. Now the fan isn't as loud, and the same time the CPU's load temp in prime95 is at 61~C.

Idle temp are at 40C~, and Fan is "silent" compared to before. Thanks faxon & everyone. 🙂
