Wow, that whole tolerance thing is one slippery slope. I don't want to be considered a hypocrite so I'll just stick to my "Anything I don't agree with is bullsh!t." That won't lead to any problems, I'm sure.

Actually, I have more respect for those who say "anything I don't agree with is bullsh!t" because at least they're being truthful. Those who claim to be tolerant are usually hypocrites who demand tolerance for things they agree with but then fail to have any for things they don't.

Wow, that is nuts! In other words, because I think people should tolerate other races, I have to be tolerant of people murdering and raping children so that I'm not a hypocrite. I think I'll choose hypocrisy then. Being you must be a tough job what with all the hypocrisy you have to point out of whenever anybody says or does anything...

Murder and rape is a crime, no one is demanding you tolerate it. That has nothing to do with "tolerant" people crying murder because someone offended their beliefs.

If you are unable to see the difference between tolerance for illegal actions and tolerance for differing viewpoints, then you have much bigger issues than hypocrisy. Nobody says you have to tolerate illegal criminal actions. If you want people to be 'tolerant' of something, and yet you are not tolerant of viewpoints you disagree with, then you are a hypocrite, pure and simple.

So if someone had the viewpoint that murder was legal I would need to tolerate that differing viewpoint according to what you've said... Or does that slippery slope you're on come to a screeching halt somewhere?

Apparently you are confused about what tolerance means. You don't have to agree with something or think it's right to be tolerant of it. You have to tolerate and accept the fact that others are allowed to have that viewpoint and that they have just as much right to their viewpoint as you do to yours. If you think their view is nutty, that's fine, but you have to tolerate it. The hypocrites preaching "tolerance" want everyone to tolerate their ideas, but have no tolerance for others who have ideas they don't agree with.

Based on this definition, I agree with you. I don't agree with racism, but that doesn't mean that I want to censor people who say racist things. It's their right to believe what they will and profess those beliefs publicly. However, if you say that blacks are less than whites, and I accuse you of being a bigot, I'm not being "intolerant" of your opinion, I'm simply using specific terminology to label you. This "intolerance of intolerance is intolerant" talking point doesn't make any sense.

Ok, so I'm allowed to disagree with the nutty viewpoint but not deny that they are allowed to have that viewpoint in order to not be considered a hypocrite?

I guess what I'm having a problem with is your definition of not tolerating other viewpoints... Getting back to the topic at hand, I don't believe it's hypocritical to "preach tolerance" but disagree with a hate-monger like Rush being inducted to someplace prestigious. Is it possible to disagree with this, be tolerant and not be a hypocrite? If so, how?
