I want to add linux to my main comp, im currently using the dual boot option from Win2k, what would be the safest way to add linux. ohh by the way, i also run BeOS on this computer but I always start it off from a disk, can I add this too?

using mandrake 7.0 i couldnt seem to get lilo boot mangager with that distribution to work with my dual win2k/mandrake install...

however the lilo boot manager that comes iwth 7.2 is alot better, and i have successfully been able to use that boot manager to choose between linux and win2k.

now if you wanted to do a triple boot, youd have to look that up, sometimes the 3.5" boot disc can save alot of head ache, but i konw how neat it would be to setup a tripe or quad boot.

I know partition magic's boot magic program is good at this, you could do it on either hte lilo boot manager or the Win2k NT Loader (NTLDR) but its more work.

You'll need to have a Linux Loader such as LILO or Grub somewhere on the machine, but you don't have to use it as your main boot selector. Basically you can install LILO to your Linux / partition (or /boot) and set the delay to zero. Then use whatever boot selector you want (windows 2k's works fine, BeOS's works as well. I use XOSL myself). Just add the partition to the menu of the boot selector (there's a utility to do this for Win2k, but I can't remember than name). You can also add the BeOS parition to the win2k bootloader IF it's on it's own partition. If you're using the BeOS inside of a windows file system then you have to use the BeOS boot selector in order to get Be on the starting boot menu.
