lilo gets as far as "LI" and then stops loading

all i really want is to get either it working or get winnt's bootloader to the MBR. 2000 is located on the second partition. when i ran it's repair option it didn't overwrite LILO with ntldr.

nope. this is why god invented unused partitions, linux gets reinsl;;rldlj'adl'hk'lak'llk'kh'l!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

okay, used boot disk to enter linux

my x server doesn't work on radeon 7500 dagnabit

ran lilo from root

now lets see

Had this myself but a few years ago, stopped at LI ......

Can't remember how I fixed it but I did fix it !!!!!

sorry I'm not more help,

keep trying,

Col

Lilo each letter in the word "LILO" has a meaning depending on how far it gets.

Check this out.

It has to do with where you have Lilo installed in the paritition...

[EDIT: Also, there are some Lilo "mini how-tos" out there that are really helpful in dealing with Lilo. 🙂]

elfenix how do you have the dual boot setup? if its on one HD run linux rescue *redhat is bout all i know* do a chroot /mnt/sysimage

then type pico /etc/lilo.conf look at the top 4 lines if it shows it going to hda2 i would change it to hda hit ctrl-x hit enter to save as lilo.conf. once it finishes try typing lilo or /sbin/lilo... it should say

added linux
added windows*

reboot then give her a try again

hope this helps also if anything try and hook us up with what lilo says...

you could use this proggie which i wouldnt use write support for it ExploreFs

then you could copy lilo.conf over from the /etc/ file directory and open it with notepad and paste to us what it says

Hope this helps 😀

-----------------------------

also make sure it says lba32 instead of linear due to ur installing more than likely outside the 1024 cylinder range like the link that Poof mentioned should work if your installing outside the 1024 cylinder range i believe you always wanna put lba32

Good Luck Linux Rocks 😀

fdisk /mbr will replace the Master Boot Record (You probably already know that). Then Win2K's repair should set the boot process back to Win2K. There is a way to use Win2K/NT's bootloader to give you your boot menu, and have it bootstrap lilo for your linux boot (I am doing it). It involves an additional step anytime you update your lilo configuration, but if you want, I can take a snapshot of the files so you can see what it can/should look like.

LMK.

fdisk /mbr followed by win2k's built in repair process worked great, i'll just use the linux boot disk to get to linux.

could this have been caused by my accidentally deleting my linux partition a while back? i know i've rebooted the system since then though... ?

thanks for the help!

Could be that, if in the next install you didn't install lilo on the same place again....

Now, just use the NT Loader to load-up linux... go read the FAQ!!
