I had the best of intentions. Children identify with these characters and act out accordingly. My son asks me a LOT of questions about a lot of things. I enjoy sitting down with him and explaining things...teaching him the way the world works, etc.

But TV commercials today...look at the Chuck E. Cheese commercials. Kids calling their parents "lame" rolling their eyes when mom says "time to leave" or whatever....my father smacked my ass halfway into next year when I did anythign like that. You learned quick though. You learned that kids do not rule. :)

Anyway, unless you have a child yourself, you have no idea what I'm talking about.

MichaelD your my hero! I say the same things and people think I'm some sort of monster but when I was coming up you did as you were told that it as you got older you had more freedom and input but there was still a line that you didn't cross because you knew that mom or dad would jack you up. Now these kids act like you are just the maid/butler that takes care of things for them and if you try to correct them they give you attiude. :|

We are kindred souls, Bushwicktrini. :) Most people here at AT think I'm a psycho child-abuser or something. Much of that, I believe, comes from the general age group here. Most here are under 25 and were raised in a different culture.

I was not one, but TWO generations behind my parents...they married and had kids late in life (late being relative for the 1960's) Not only that, but I was born to Italian immigrant parents that raised their kids the way their ancestors raised theirs; with an iron fist.

My son's mom spoils him and that doesn't help my task. He thinks that just b/c he wants something that he's going to get it. Bahahah!! Good one, son!

I tell him

Son, as much as you want the Spiderman vs. Godzilla PS2 game, there are more important things that I have to spend my meager earnings on. Like food, electricity and rent. Someday, my boy, you'll understand.

Most times he nods his head, looks sad for a minute, then forgets completely about it. Other times, he'll ask me "why do you have to pay bills?" I like that question. I tell him about Credit vs. Debit, the Gross National Product and how it affects interest rates...all that. After a minute, he's sleepy, and I win. :)

"Whaaaaaaaat? After all you've put me through, you just expect me to help you?"

"Ih."

"Well . . . all right then."

"You're going to help him, just like that?"

"He's very persuasive."

"Oh, good, my dog found the chainsaw."

Those commercials are idiotic, but it's possible to raise kids well - I should know. I'm 19, and I lived through a lot of that crap. I have cousins who are 5,6 and living through it. From what I've seen, it just takes time and dedication.

Maybe I'm just a unique case or something, I love my parents and respect them, despite what I've seen them go through and act like.

That movie was good, up until the end where all of a sudden the big sister excepts that the aliens are real...
