Dump was probably mad he couldn't bring Putin, will stay home and plan his next golf outing.

America's Wealthiest Hemorrhoid has more important things to do! Like watch Fox and Friends, or embarrass the office of president via twitter some more.

"The master of ceremonies for the dinner is typically a celebrity entertainer or comedian, but no host has been announced yet for this year’s event."

Let's have "Spicer" from SNL be the MC and cardboard cutouts for the rest. We could have a video display in Trump's seat with someone typing "Trump Tweets" in response to things said.

Delicate snowflakes that can't take a joke. Or, they need the time to work on getting their stories straight and discussing strategies with attorneys. Probably both.

Now all of the members of the media should follow suit and skip it. It never should have been done to begin with and it's long past time for it to die.

Oh I don't know, it used to be something which wasn't that much of a disaster. Not showing up might be seen as "well we're going to take our ball and glove and go home too". If Trump et al are going to be petty then let's make it into an annual roast and have fun with it for the time being. Heaven knows I could use some comic relief.

It has always been unseemly to me that supposedly independent journalists were chomping at the bit to dine and rub elbows with the people they were supposed to be impartially covering.

I understand your concern but personally I would draw the line at influence peddling. Over a dinner though? Well that's my perspective and of course you are entitled to yours. I wonder how much selling of policy is attempted and how much ferreting out of stories is done? Oh well that's not happening.

Exclude Trump even if he changes his mind and make a comic event fitting of the ridiculousness of the situation. I agree no one should be pandering to any official.

But that's how people make connections. They can be exposed to each other in a different light and still gain more access.
I have a long history in sales, sales management these are generally good events in my opinion but I'll knowledge my perspective may be different than others.
