This time, the Congressman on the receiving end is Rep. William Jefferson, a Louisiana Democrat. He is, of course, denying any wrongdoing. I think that this is a "Duke-stir" case and he has about zero chance of coming out of this unscathed. Especially if there is a paper trail.

I'm hoping, that if he did do anything that is alledged, that the business man kept good records. It will help with the cleaning up of this "gentleman" and hopefully send a message to others like him.....

"We, the American people, are sick and tired of this crap and are coming after you. We will not be satisfied with the status quo anymore and are going to make sure that you spend a few years in a 6x9 room to make that point."

Kudos to the prosecutors for their efforts in helping ween the system of these self-serving idiots and, with any luck, getting in people that still believe in the morals and integrity that they speak about during their campaigns.

Whole CNN Story

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A businessman pleaded guilty Wednesday in federal court to paying more than $400,000 in bribes to a U.S. congressman.

Government sources identified the lawmaker as Rep. William Jefferson, a Louisiana Democrat who has denied any wrongdoing. He has not been charged.

Vernon Jackson, 53, of Louisville, Kentucky, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Virginia, to a two-count charge of conspiracy to commit bribery and payment of bribes to a public official.

He agreed to cooperate with federal prosecutors investigating Jefferson's activities related to telecommunications deals in Africa and elsewhere.

Jackson faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $500,000 under terms of the plea agreement.
