I just gave it a shot and holy shit... its pretty damn good! Its red alert 1 for a modern PC basically, no campaign though just multiplayer and skirmish, the whole UI has been redone for it though its not just making the old game work again its brought it up to date whilst keeping the graphics and gameplay the same.

Works in 1080p, no stretching! Its got waypoints and build queuing as well, plus the UI got a bit of an overhaul, its a bit like RA2 now with defensive structures in a different tab, tanks and infantry have their own tabs etc. Minimizes and maximizes without screwing up too.

Quick to download easy to set up, just works! Seriously zero dicking about to make it work, it will prompt you that it needs the original red alert to work you just click the "download" button and it handles the rest.

Only niggle is that the only music it comes with is hell march. Its not difficult to put the missing music in yourself though using this guys file:

Dunno why it didn't come with that in the first place. Anyways as a former C&C fan, hate EA ruined it etc blah /end rant, i am very impressed with this, anyone else who liked the original C&C's should try this game.

Why don't we have more RTS games like this? Thanks to fairly fluid animations the graphics actually don't look bad.

Thanks,just had a short 2v2 match.

Just won my first 2v2, it was a long drawn out fight though. I camped on the ore mine with defense buildings and the other guys spammed tanks, which didn't pan out because infantry = good now

Does it have the original C&C: Red Alert theme song, "Hell's March"? What a great intro to a game.

I remember trying this or maybe a different web version and it was choppy. I guess I'll go in again and see......

Oh and theres tiberian dawn too!

Same features as red alert, multiplayer, single player vs an AI (original TD never even had a skirmish AI!)

Again though no music unless you add it yourself or just play an mp3 in the background.

Holy...

Thanks a lot for pointing at this I really appreciate.

Indeed Tiberian Dawn never had a skirmish A.I. (or skirmish mode) from what I can remember, it's going to feel strange building up a big skirmish-style base of original C&C buildings and playing it another way than doing missions. I'll definitely give it a try (but I know myself I won't just give it a try I'll also just keep this gem forever).

I wonder though, what A.I. did they take for the one in Tiberian Dawn? Since there never was an official skirmish mode, did they just take the existing A.I. written during the missions and applied it for a skirmish mode or... ? That's neat anyway, dunno how they did it, or maybe it's easy to mod the C&C files (there's a lot of mods for Tiberian Sun but I'm not sure about Tiberian Dawn I never really looked to find mods for that one) and I'm not aware of it but it's awesome anyhow.

I think they might have made an AI themselves or copied some stuff from red alert (maybe a it of both), IIRC most of the stuff happening during the tiberian dawn missions is actually scripted.

Can you still tesla rush?

More importantly, can you still configure it to allow you to play with both GDI and Nod buildings in multi-player? What about the bug to place a building anywhere on the map (nuclear strike, orbital cannon, build a power plant and Obelisk of Light)? How about getting your grenadiers to be able to throw grenades across the map?

Well ive just realized they actually reverse engineered the entire game engine and made a new one to create this so i don't think any of the original bugs/peculiarities remain. There is an "allow cheats" option that can be ticked but i dunno what it does specifically.

Been fooling with the cheat modes:

ZC8A6sL.jpg

Thats what the "enable cheats" tickbox on games does. So to whoever asked if you could build everything earlier on, looks like you can.

Well, it used to just be a config file change, not a "cheat code" or a "developer mode" item. The advantage there was that you could allow it in multi-player without enabling other cheats.

I turned on the cheats and decided to beat the AI by re-enacting D-day using paradrop spam :awe:

does not work for me, installed fine. Will not run. The process exists for a few seconds and terminates. Tried rebooting, tried compatibility. No go... :(
