Put a new cover on my deck, I knew the old panels were weathered but JEEBUS!

Old:

New:

I mostly replaced them because they were actually wearing through! D:

Ah that looks like PVC...? Used that on my carport 20'X20' was much cooler and not near as dark as the old metal that it had...

I prefer green, It reminds me of the 70s, and it looks good with lit plastic pagodas, or something hanging underneath :^D

Seriously, I like that. Pretty tacky, but I like 70s party decor :^D

Maybe it's because I wasn't born until the second half of the 80s, but I cannot stand anything remotely looking like 70s decor. 😛

Honestly, I don't either. I think it's more of a nostalgia thing, and because it has a distinctive style(or lack thereof). I appreciate decor that sits solidly in a single time frame. It allows one to time travel for a brief period. An objective look would fail the 70s I think :^D

It's fiberglass, not PVC. Makes sitting on the deck better since you keep the light but get some shade. With the colors though, can't do green. Plus I can't stand green anyway.

I thought about getting the PVC panels in smoke color but was warned that snow can make them crack and the fiberglass is a bit more durable.

My wife has been badgering me for the past couple of years to put those over the pergola on the patio. I've been resisting.

ehh.. why dont u?
whats the point of a pergola then? just for looks? not for shade or shelter from rain?

I don't drink much and I was crazy drunk...

i've had too much coke and shouldnt be driving. i think i'll pull over after i finish typing this message on ATOT 😀

it's also easier to bang the hooker while the car's not in motion 😱 😛

We have 24" white lattice that slides into grooves on top of the trusses (redwood color) that are over the deck. Does not keep out the rain, but look good and shaded nicely.
Nice contrast.

If an admin had caught it first, adios for a period of time. You do not have a clean record to fall back one

Instead of doing fiberglass panels you could create a living cover. Maybe use some chicken wire and spread it over the top of the pergola. Then plant some perennial vines like Clematis, Honeysuckle, Trumpet vine or even grapes to create a living roof over the top. I think it would look much prettier than the fiberglass and depending on what vine you choose it may even attract hummingbirds and butterflies.
Of course this would be a lot more work than the panels but it might be an alternative that maybe both you and your wife could agree on.
