Like 40 second pause between POST and XP Pro login screen....

My pc was running fine, just had a lot of crap on it and decided it was that time to format again. So I formatted like usual, cept for some reason, after this format there is now a long ass pause after the post(after it shows irqs), before the xp pro loading screen. Just a black screen. I havent changed anything since it was running fine besides reformatting. What would cause this?

Sys specs are as follows:

Win XP Pro
A7N8X-Deluxe
2100+
1024 DDR CAS 2 RAM @ 2100
G4 Ti4600

Ive reformatted again a couple times figuring it was a bad install or something far fetched. Ive changed everything in bios to default and back. Ive tried just about everything but resetting the cmos.

Anyone see/hear/have this problem before and possibly know a solution?

Hit F8 and go to the step by step confirmation. See what is taking so long. It could be looking for a device or driver.

Theres no step by step boot confirmation in the f8 menu. Just a bunch of safe mode and restore options, debug and boot logging.

By any chance, do you have booting from the CDROM first enabled? I have a cheapo DVD drive that will just sit there for 30 seconds flat if it's set to boot off of it and there's no CD inside. Also, try resetting your configuration data (most likely under a PnP/PCI menu).

I have HDD-0 then CDROM then disabled. I dont even have a floppy hooked up. So I have floppy seek disabled and its not in the boot line.

Reset config data for what? Ive reset the bios a couple times now. Theres only 2 options under the PNP/PCI menu, one for PCI/VGA Palette switch and...I forget, sec.

If you have an active network card installed that isn't actually connected to anything. just go to Dev Mgr and go to the properties of that NIC and check "Disable in this profile". Voila...
.bh.
Where's the :sun: ?

I just got done reformatting (I swear like the 5th time since) and its fine now. Really really wierd, I just dont get what the problem was. I did the same exact install every time. I really think it was something wrong with the hard drive. Definately wasnt a bios issue.

Thanks for the help though guys.

The A7N8X-Deluxe has two onboard NICs. If you're not using either or both, then disable them in the BIOS and see if that has an effect (if this problem crops up again). If you suspect your HDD is being strange, you might run a diagnostic on it using the HDD maker's diagnostic utility.
