Lightweight device that will run VS

What are my best options for a lightweight device that can run Visual Studio? Would a typical netbook be able to handle this or would I need an actual laptop? What about a tablet like the surface or something?

I'm interested in hearing what devices you prefer to use when on the go. Thanks in advance.

Surface Pro 1 runs VS 2012 pretty well, and the type keyboard is OK though I'd carry a mouse if possible.

It is a 10" screen so by default they have the text scaling set high instead of showing you the native 1080 display.

I don't travel with it, work bought it for testing Windows 8.x touch screen use for our apps.

If I was buying my own I'd probably go with a thin-light 15" screen laptop instead.

I used a HP 'Mini 110 HD' netbook (Atom N280, 10.1" 1366x768 display) as my daily dev PC for about a year and a half back when I first got it. The portability was unmatched, it ran VS 2003/2005 really well, and the machine had no problem driving a 1920x1080 external display when I was at my desk.

any atom device can run visual studio (I have a eeepc 1000h running vs2008), build performance are not so good (but it also depends on hard drives, using an ssd greatly improves performance) but it's ok for quick code fixes or learning to code.

This question also depends on how big of a codebase you'll be working with. I'm assuming you don't have a massive codebase?

Got the T-100 and love it so far. Only thing that takes getting used to is the right shift key. Sweet little device, $380 at WalMart for 64gb version with MS Office included can't really beat that.
