I'm looking for recommendations for small, lightweight laptops that still have a good amount of processing power (not an atom) and preferably an SSD. Normal usage will include office 2010 and 2013 products and remote desktop.

I'm looking for something preferably below 4-5lbs. Ideally closer to 3lbs. Does anyone have any particular models in mind they can recommend? I'm open to most manufacturers but I would lean towards the big names: Dell, HP, Lenovo.

Should have said that. Feels really light when carrying it around and I was surprised that 1600x900 would work on a 14" monitor, but it does.

I forgot I made this thread, but I'm down to either the Lenovo X1 Carbon or the Dell e6430u. The dell is obviously heavier/thicker/less sexy - however it is cheaper.

Would you say you need good eyesight for that res? I see they offer a lower tier LCD as well for the X1.

Thinkpad X230 is good. Be sure to get an SSD upgrade with it though.
Thinkpad X1 Carbon is better if you have the budget to blow. The touch version isn't worth it. There isn't a lower resolution version - perhaps you are thinking of the Thinkpad X1 - which is not close to the X1 Carbon. 125 ppi I find is just fine for a laptop.

Ended up grabbing three X1 Carbons. One with the lower resolution for a user with bad eyesight. I'll update with my impressions if anyone is interested.

simply go to 125 ppi. It works fine for older eyes. Dell XPS 14"? The 15s seem to be a disaster
