Lightning, ethernet, and dead laptop

Is it worth $25+ to dignose extent of death, what is ballpark for power supply in Gateway laptop? Or just call it a bad day and buy a new one?

Power supply? I could be crazy, but laptops tend to use external power supplies. If it got fried by lightening, you fried the motherboard. $25 is a very fair price to diagnose it, but I dont know of any place that really has the tools necessary to make that type of diagnosis. Even if they are able to, a new laptop motherboard would run you at least $200..maybe $300 (plus installation). Why not call your insurance company?

Thx, johnjkr1.
I guess I'm brain cramped. What is odd is that the battery charge indicator seems to work until you turn the power button, then even that indicator goes out. Must be some diode oe resistor somewhere.

So basically the laptop doesnt post at all, right? Even with everything out? (hard drive, battery, etc). If that is the case, you either have a dead mb, or a dead power supply brick (the thing that goes into the wall). Chances are it's the motherboard...sometimes you can get a great deal on a used one on ebay.
