Dell Latitude x300 is the best value for a lightweight laptop.

The carbon fiber version of the Sony Vaio Note 505 Extreme is currently the lightest, I believe. It's 1.73lbs and just .4" thick.

My broken Thinkpad ratio is much higher than my Dell ratio. Plus I'm not allowed to purchase IBM.
