Light windshield scratches...

Scarpozzi

Ugggh....couldn't find my normal windshield scraper this morning. I found a plastic scraper that I use for wood filler, etc that's made of black plastic. I used in on my car and after the frost melted I've noticed about 6-8 scratches in the windshield that weren't there before. I'm sure it probably had a jagged edge somewhere in the plastic and it's just scuffed it up.

I read up and found a google post about Diamondite windshield repair kit... It's $25 and requires a drill. I can just leave them....they're not nearly as noticeable as say a wiper blade/arm scratch...they're all light surface scratches....but I have really good vision so I see that stuff. Is there a better or cheaper way to work on these?

windshields only last a couple years out here, i wait till there is at least a few chips in the area i look out all the time or a large crack to replace.

you can get a replacement for 200 or 250 if you pay cash. that's the best way, esp. if you have other chips and scratches.

Yeah...my windshield is like 6 months old...I paid to have it replaced.

I'd call the glass shop that did the replacement and see if they offer services to buff it out, but I had it done at our timeshare condo about 6 hours from here. I considered just dropping coin to replace the whole thing again (not just yet) because chances are another rock will hit it. I've had 2 cracked windshields in the past 2 years and big rocks always seem to find me. The windshield I'm posting about took an 3/4" rock hit thrown from a truck across 3 lanes of traffic 2 days after I had it installed. I cursed with my kids present...it was great....but just small chips. Luckily, it didn't crack.

I will join in on the wait till you have a chip or crack in the windshield before replacing it. Murphy said it best, if you proactively replace it, you will on the drive home get hit by a fist sized rock and need to swap it again.
