I don't have any way to know if this is media, receiver, or speakers so since I'm hearing it through speakers, I'll post it here. Apologies in advance if I'm in the wrong place...
It only happens on 5.1 mixes. I get a faint crackle. It doesn't sound at all like something that's popping or that's doing any damage since it's so faint. But here's the interesting bit... when I switch my Yamaha receiver to 5-channel Enhanced Audio, it goes away. But then I'm just blending everything to each speaker rather than channels going to their appropriate speakers. Not ideal.
Other things I've observed...
- this never happens on discs, only files
- I don't hear the crackle on the subwoofer (maybe that's self explanatory since it can't do anything but low frequency but maybe it rules out static?)
- these are always files of televised programs that play fine on my computer, but on a basic 2.0 setup
Any ideas here?
