Preferably i3, but would consider i5 as a last resort [I'm assuming I don't need i5 for Chrome with 30-40 tabs, 10 windows of Excel, occasional Photoshop kinda thing?]. Help guys! :)

17" MacBook Pro is cheaper than that.

But not nearly as powerful, 2.2 or 2.3Ghz i7 vs the 2.8 i7 in the Blade, less RAM in the standard config, and weaker video options. Plus, it doesn't have the stylish dynamic LCD touch panel or gaming function keys on it either. :p

MBP is a nice machine, but the Blade is targeted to a different market. And it looks damn cool. But, out of my price range and I've no need for a gaming notebook of that caliber. But, thats just me.

The Pro can also be purchased right now, whereas last I looked, the Blade was still just a render.

The Envy that Sunburn linked to is a good choice and a good price.

Not sure why you'd want an i3 over an i5 specifically (especially if you can get the better cpu at a lower pricepoint), but the 17 inch doesn't seem to come with anything less than an i5. It actually can come with a low clocked sandybridge quad core for a smidgeon more. If power saving is your concern, you can always make the dual core 15 run at 50 percent speed or 25 percent speed in your windows power settings.

As for the color, HP envy's are kind of a dark gray color by nature (they photograph very poorly). The edges are silverish but the laptop itself (ie area around the keyboard) is dark grey. They They do however come in black, but as an envy owner, I like the dark gray preferable to the black.

The thing to look for is if the refurbushed item is sealed and packaged. Anything sealed and packaged will come in new condition with all original packaging straight from HP.

The Blade is a sweet laptop. Razer should make a non gaming one without that extra LCD, then maybe it would be more affordable.

i think dell inspiron 17" can be had with an i3

I don't think the Inspiron is is sleek

I have trouble vizualizing anything 17-in as "sleek." I tried one once - and the first trip by air killed that idea. It is almost impossible to use one on a seat tray in coach - and if the yo-yo in front of you reclines - forget it! I suppose it is OK if you travel 1st class. :)

Blade is the way to go for sleek.

I bought a refurbished Alienware m17x r3 personally. It shows up next week. Can't beat the combination of price and power. Not exactly sleek, but very stylin'.
