Lawmaker sponsors resolution
to break the Curse of the
Bambino

By Associated Press, 8/14/2001 08:42

BOSTON (AP) A veteran lawmaker and longtime Red Sox fan
is doing his part to try to break the mythical ''Curse of the
Bambino'' that some believe has kept the Boston team from
winning the World Series.

State Rep. Angelo Scaccia, D-Readville, is sponsoring a
resolution to officially recognize the retirement of Babe Ruth,
who started his career with the Red Sox before the Yankees
acquired him prior to the 1920 season.

Scaccia and Canton resident Harvey Robbins are planning a
ceremony in September in which the player's 84-year-old
daughter, Julie Ruth Stevens, will accept the resolution.

''Nothing will bring us a championship other than honoring
Babe Ruth,'' Robbins told the Boston Herald. ''We've got to do
this to lift the curse, and we've got to do this with honor.''

The Red Sox have not won a World Series since 1918.

Some things simply can't be legislated.

The curse of the Bambino is certainly one of those.

The only valid cure is intense psychological counseling to cure the sufferer of being a BoSox fan. Once you face up to the fact that the Sox will never actually go anywhere during your lifetime, no matter how good they appear in April/May/June, then you're on your way.

All i hear is about the Red Sox fans saying how they are the fans disappointed the most, but come on i mean at least they arent the White Sox (last world series ring in 1917 and last appearance in 1959) or the Cubs (last world series ring 1908 and last appearance 1945)

at least they made it to the world series in '86...
