Lifting a truck

The lift kits I've seen all cost $2000-$3000... I think I must be looking in the wrong places because there are so many trucks lifted that I find it unbelievable that it costs that much.

I want my truck raised somehow... how could I go about doing this?
 
Well basically I want to fit a set of large tires (not monster truck large, but probably about twice as big as I have now) on there. Right now I have the kind of tires you'd see on a car on there... I traded hubcaps with a Suzuki coupe once.
