People like BFGTech, EVGA, etc give lifetime warranty on their products. Des this imply the life of the owner or the product? coz if its the product, then its a crappy one at that... deceitful

It's a warranty for the life of the product.
From BFG's site:

There's a word that is probably left out which is Limited and it varies from Manu to manu...so read the find print on the product...also if the Co goes broke all bets are off and I think when I was a Kid the US Gov set up a restriction that Lifetime can only mean up to 7 yrs unless otherwise stipulated.
Warranties in general are subject to manufacturer discretion. If the length is said to be "lifetime," then it is just that--provided the manufacturer doesn't go out of business. However, as mentioned above, the warranty itself operates under a number of safeguards.

Wrong. Some warranties are only good for the original purchaser. Some require proof of purchase. Which is why I'm having a hard time following the logic of the poster; if ya want to know what the warranty is then read the warranty or contact the company :shrug

Lifetime warranties are a gimick IMO. I mean, I have 2 gigs of Corsair VS with a lifetime warranty. In a year or so I will probably be on 8gigs DDR2 and will make keychains out of my existing memory. I think manufacturers who offer lifetime warranties know we wont be using said product for more than a coupla years so they use the "Lifetime Warranty" as a selling point. 15 years or more ago memory wasnt even warrantied! Thats cuz 4 megs cost like $1000 (give or take).

That is, the warranty ends when the item goes out of production and is no longer stocked by PNY.
most 5,000 posters think that lifetime means forever. it's whatever the contract says. lifetime of the store, lifetime of a new "deal" (aka could be 1 month) or lifetime of the card on the shelves. read the fine print. the deal isn't as good as it sounds.
Not anymore. When the 6800 series came out they changed it to 1 year + 2 years with registration on the website.
A Evga GF2 would no longer have a warrinty. That is pretty much what it means. I think cause GF4's are still being made they have a lifetime too, but I am not sure.
Okay, the question you gotta ask yourself is, are you really gonna be using your BFG 7800GTX for more than 10 years? Not likely. I'd say you would trash it in 5 years or less. In five years, the games will run so slowly on even a 7800GTX that you'll want to rip it in half.

It depends on who is honoring the warrenty. One product (memory i think) website said lifetime warrenty is defined as the "Lifetime of the product as long as it is still in production". Other companies like Sears say lifetime is just that they gurentee their product (craftsman) to be good forever and will replace it free of charge.
If you have a card BFG doesn't make anymore they'll give you a newer card. That's why so many people recommend them, their service is unmatched.
One time I found out it was the life of the company. I was looking for support for a dead video card that failed within the 7-year warranty. I knew I was in trouble when all the links on the company website were broken.
I think all lifetime warranties would have clause in it for life of company. Think about it the company would never be purchased if the new owner would have to cover a product for life. In the end its really up to the company on hand, In the US a lifetime warranty is a promise or contract between manufacturer and purchaser, that kind of contract has a statue of limitations of 5 years. This means that BFG for example as a US company has given you the promise of a lifetime of free repairs assuming you fit with in their Limited restrictions, that promise can only be enforced for 5 years. So after 5 years they can turn down a repair, not because the warranty is over for whatever reason, but because they are no longer required by law to repair it.
This isn't the greatest Idea because once people start running into this they take the chance of people bad mouthing them for lying. When the say that its for the time that you own it as the original purchaser they mean it, but again if push comes to shove no product in the US has a warranty that is enforcable after 5 years.
