Lifetime warranties are great marketing tools.

It's rather safe nowadays to offer a lifetime warranty on a product instead of a standard 5-year, 3-year or sometimes 1-2 year warranties. Companies lose absolutely nothing because most users will upgrade their components before the "time-limited" warranties end. So the companies actually make more money by marketing them with lifetime warranties, as 3 or 5 year warranties are rather pointless as the products are obsoleted in this world of fast moving technology.

Yeah life time warranties usually only mean product life time warranty. As soon as it isn't in production or they don't have anymore you're out of luck. Some manufactures will honor them and send you the closest modern equivalent, but it's hit and miss. On computer parts I think 3 years is the upper limit on most things.

Even so, most enthusiasts will upgrade before the warranty is up. Even though we "technically" void our warranties on day one 😉

Lifetime warranties can mean several things:

Shelf-life/production run of product
Item's existence with first owner
Item's existence with all owners
Lifetime of company
