Good.

IMO, it shouldn't take 9 DUI's to get sent to prison. Your 2nd one should earn you at least 1 year in lock-up...and by the 3rd or 4th, you've proven that you refuse to stop...so you should be locked up for life. It's similar to "habitual offender" laws in many states.

(and yes, DUI is as serious of a crime as assault, robbery, etc...and if you kill someone while DUI, it's as serious as murder.)

fuck him

either life in prison or remove his arms/legs so he can't drive

"This guy has a disease, he is an alcoholic and this isn't the kind of situation where he's acting with malice to hurt people," said Lawrence Taylor, a DUI lawyer and author of "Drunk Driving Defense."

except for the people he keeps crashing into.

This isn't very far off what I think, though I'd revoke the license after the 2nd. If someone is still drinking and driving w/o a license, fuck them.

A disease? Really?

And this disease prevents him from drinking in his own home or from taking a cab?

I've never accepted the whole, "Alcoholism and drug addiction is a disease" line of bullshit.

Can people have "addictive personalities?" Yes...I have that problem myself...I'm either "in or out" when it comes to hobbies and such, but it's NOT a disease...it's a personality flaw/trait.

I can believe alcoholism is a disease... Half the people on this board take some medication for "Social Anxiety Disorder". They also sell medicine for people with "restless legs" lol

Why wasnt he locked up before?

It's shocking if he wasn't in lockup for an extended period before. I think LIP after 9 without ever having him pay a large penalty previously is a bit of a joke. I find the system as guilty and useless as he is.

some alcoholics do have genetic predisposition to alcoholism.

Sending him to prison will certainly cure him from that "disease".

Drunk Driver that killed my uncle was on his 8th DUI and driving on a suspended license. Only convicted for 12 years, out in 6.

Tell me that punishment fit the crime.

Now we have to feed clothe and medicate this scumbag for years and not me mention the possibility of getting eventually and then killing someone... I sometimes miss death penalty...

There are still people with large amounts of DWI's out there because 20 years ago the laws were far less stringent. For example the mandatory jail time was for after 2 or 3 convictions withing a certain amount of time. After a while the previous ones dropped off as thresholds for jail time.
Today, most states now consider previous DWI's as a serious crime and you can go to jail for the 2nd or 3rd one, even if one or two were many years ago.

Fortunately you're not operating on me, Doctor:)

Should have just revoked his license after the 2nd one and an extented jail sentence. And a mandatory rehab afterwards. It never stated he had actually killed someone in any of his DWIs so a life sentence is a bit harsh.

Don't mess with Texas.

I'll admit the sentence is a little harsh. Maybe 5-10 years since he didn't kill anyone. He should certainly be banned from driving for life. I'm surprised he managed to get his license back... assuming he had one.
