Life or evolution program and games

Long long long time ago I had a program that you put in a few varibles and it would put up a tachtical screen and little creatures would move around the screen, Sometimes eating eachother or just geneticly change.

I also like to set up games like Starcraft, Command and Concour and HomeWorld2 with all AI and watch them go at it while I do other paperwork at the desk or in the room.

Anyone know a good evolution program or even other games that can be set up like that?
prefer no maintenance what so ever.
 
Isn't Spore supposed to be this type of game? I don't know as I have no interest in this type of game.
 
From what Ive seen doesnt Sim Life require it to be maintained?, Take your eyes of the screen for 5 seconds and WTF there going up in flames in the swimming pool or am I thinking about something else.
