Do you ever feel that life is not only hard and unfair, but also mean and downright scary? That's how I'm feeling right now. Nothing is promised to you no matter how much you work at it, and everything can be taken away from you in a moment, etc.

If you know what I'm talking about, what do you do to make yourself feel better.. what do you tell yourself, who do you talk to, etc?

you remember that when the chips are down you have the best resource going to help you get in gear again... and that is yourself ! You also need to remember that yes,you can lose everything in a minute but you can also grab the entire dam enchilda in a minute too.. you won't know though if you run scared and don't try !

life- it's an all you can eat buffet... but it's serve yourself !

you take the attitude that nothing in life is free and that you just paid the price of a little personal pain in order to learn something important. You dust yourself off and start over. The only other alternative is to just lay down and die ? why do that ?

Well, I know what you mean, but it sounds a little harsh. How can you immediately make a transition like that? Maybe I'm just not a strong person then. I mean, it sounds like you have some great control over your mind, that you can walk away from a miserable situation and see a good one in your future.

Perhaps you're experiencing free floating anxiety. It is perfectly normal if mild. You'll be OK. If it progresses to a point where you are unable to accomplish things you would like to see a doctor.

hey, I didn't say that you don't take a minute to lick your wounds but baby,it's a hard cold world out there, you've gotta be your own best friend instead of your own worst enemy , hey there's enough people out there who'll be more than happy to
kick you,why do it yourself ?

Additionally, remember that there are people who truly love you. Cheesy perhaps and sometimes hard to admit to yourself, but always true. You are not so despicable that you cannot be loved.

Well that world doesn't sound like a great place to live in. It sounds rather ugly. And we are living there only because we are alive.

it's not ugly at all ! You cannot expect others to care for you more than you care for yourself . Why should anyone bother to invest their time, emotions and other resources in someone who feels that they are worth nothing ?

Yes.
And I deal with it by trying to be differnt that the stuff I don't like.
I also find going to church helps immensely.

Well, You're right. Everything in the world is really neutral. Its only our minds that makes things beautiful or ugly, or gives it other qualities. So the world isn't ugly -- it's just an inkblot for you to look at and decide what you want to see.

But I still find it mean that some things arent guaranteed to us, like true love, etc. Maybe I need some kind of religion, but I was never able to believe in that kind of stuff.

Hard? Yes, sometimes. Unfair? No. Mean and scary? Bwuah! Not hardly.

What is "life"? It is not some separate entity that functions of it's own volition, independent of the one experiencing it. It is nothing more then your own personal perceptions. YOU control it, it does not control you. If you really consider it, you will find that it is not the external difficulties that create your anxiety, but rather the way in which you react to those influences.

You are responsible for your own emotional wellbeing, not the world around you.

What would you recommend Cmin7 do?

Cmin7: Why don't you try writing your feelings down and making a list of what you could do to make you feel better. Talking to a friend also helps, as might writing down what you've accomplished,

If you're in a reflective mood, try going to an art museum and looking at the different kinds of beauty people create. Perhaps you might even want to create your own art to reflect your feelings.

You could also go for a jog, rent a movie, read a book, or prepare yourself a yummy meal.

True, true. Good stuff in this thread. Russ' comments sound very true and from experience.

edit:

<< second, if you're christian... can't be all that bad right? i mean theoretically you're going to heaven. >>

Well, I wish I was. I don't believe, and can't force myself to believe, in an afterlife. It would certainly help, knowing in the back of my mind that whatever happens, I will get a wonderful stuff in the end. But we all know that.
