The show. Anyone watch it. I just watched episode one via netflix on AT's recommendation. I remember hearing here that it was a pretty good show and the first episode was definitely decent. It's kind of a cross between law and order and.... psych? I dunno.

Curious though, all the things they talk about in the show, how people lie etc... is there any truth to any of it? Or is it like all these other shows on tv where they have a very limited knowledge base of what they are actually talking about and for the most part are just making shit up?

It's based on a real micro expression guy who also consults. They obviously take great liberties with the reality of how things work but there is some basis in reality at least.

The episodes I have watched I've enjoyed. But just like any other detective type show, they take great liberties like torpid stated, but they do tie in funny real life snap shots to make it seem 100% legit.

It's a lot like House MD really. Formulaic story lines but the acting is decent so it's quite entertaining.

Season 3 has seemed kind of dull to me so far, but they did come back after only a few weeks after season 2 ended (they replaced Outlaw I think).

Used to love it, but every episode is the exact same. Don't watch it anymore.

Paul Ekman's research on facial expressions and using the information given off by just the simplest of facial movements has produced some incredible results.

cookie cutter law and order show, like those old profiler shows that were cropping up everywhere a few years ago now its the lie detectors. profiling turned out to be bullsh*t btw;) http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2007/11/12/071112fa_fact_gladwell

its ok, but nothing special, mostly a case a show type of standard stuff.

A) The show is not about profiling

B) This article seems ok, but in general one should never trust what Malcolm Gladwell writes on any scientific subject, since he has grossly misrepresented, misinterpreted, or oversimplified many scientific principles (and in some cases, entire fields) for the sake of pop psychology spewage.

I used to like this show, but IMO, they jumped the shark last season...we don't watch it any more. (plus, since Fox moved it to Monday night, it conflicts with other shows that we like much more.)

I used to really enjoy it and have the last few episodes on my DVR but I can't get myself to watch it anymore.

Liked it much more in the beginning, not so much now. They take a kernel of reality and mix in a healthy dose of "yeah right", but still entertaining. Kind of like CSI used to be. They take some reality (DNA, techniques, research) and mix it with "yeah right" ("here are the results of the DNA test you wanted run on those samples from 30 minutes ago. Oh, and I also ran the results against the national bad guy database and identified where the criminal lives".)

i didn't say the show was about profiling, i said it was the new fad like profiling was before.

gladwell ...he's interesting, you can doubt what he says, but the uk's own police force came to the same conclusion based on scientific study of the evidence as he already stated. hard to refute that.

Sorry, misread your statements about profiling.

Gladwell may be accurate here, but you could find the same information from other sources without having to worry about it getting grossly misrepresented by someone who is basically like every other non-scientist-journalist trying to cover scientific concepts (i.e. they suck at it).

csi has more style, and exists in a hyper reality, so can get away with it, doesn't hurt to be set in las vegas either.

the show that took a dive the worst on this nugget of science thing was numb3rs. they just ran out of ideas fast...

i just don't really like the lie to me guy that much. he is inferior to dr house when it comes to that kinda crotchety skeptical old man.
