required in most of the US...those that talk about running without them obviously have some reason to be. The license plate is the main method of identifying a vehicle...yet so many cover them, paint over, etc....all these people I have witnessed like this have been road fools swerving and weaving, cutting someone off to make a turn ahead of them, etc.

im just wondering if having the lights out is an offense similar to putting paint over the plate or something? If they would treat it in the same manner or not.

they might just treat it like a brake light being out, and give a fix it ticket, i dont know.
