Have read where you can buy a "license agreement" but it wasn't specific so I am here with the question. Is it possible to purchase another agreement with microsoft so you can use the same version of OS on another system. I am aware of the fact that EACH OS is for one computer but maybe somewhat lost as to what "another license agreement" provides you. Just checking my alternatives before I commit myself in spending additional $ for my computer needs.

thanks

thank you very much for the link...it took me to a site where I was able to type in my key number which would allow me to purchase another OS for the price of $269.

Here is an excerpt from the page:

Purchase a Windows XP Additional license from this site to activate your copy of Windows XP without further delay. Save up to 15% off the manufacturer's price of Windows XP Each Windows XP Additional License purchased allows you to activate your current copy of Windows XP at a price that is lower than the price of full copy of Windows. You are limited to 3 Additional Licenses purchases for each retail copy of Windows XP that you originally purchased.

Thought I would share in case others ever have a similiar question...

I was being somewhat facetious in my remarks...I don't know what MS is thinking when they think people are going to buy that product at that price. Maybe I am looking at it from the outside looking in but to pay that kinda a money is just not very wise. I will probably just go with getting an upgrade version from our local educational consortium for around $69 and hope I have the ability to transfer it if I change mb's or hard drives. I have been told that I can do that procedure 3 times with the upgrade.

$202 works out to $20 per year over the ten-year support lifespan of WinXP Pro. Is that so high? Compare it to the price of a full Adobe suite, or 3DS Max, or Lightwave, or etc, and ask yourself which of those products will be supported for ten years on a practically unlimited number of hardware/software configurations in more than a dozen different languages.

Just buy a floppy disk drive for $6 to $10 and order an OEM version of XP. It's legal.

If I could clarify something...I was referring to intial cost offered by MS vs. initial cost of said product through other channels. My opinion was based on the fact that I have initially spent a good deal of $ for a retail version of xp and MS was going to provide me the opportunity to purchase another OS (same as the one I have) for that price. (Like they were doing me a favor). I was able to purchase the OS for less than $180 and others can be found lower or at that same price point. I agree totally with your cost analysis (although ten years may be stretching it). The fact that I inferred that MS was giving me a break on price, due to the fact that I already own the OS, is the basis for my comment.
