Libya to stop WMD programs.

Blair has just announced that Gaddafi will dismantle his WMD programs and comply with international commitees on chemical and nuclear weapons and technology.
9 months of work has produced results. They're also going to limit the range of their missiles to 300km.

Libya has been campaigning to rejoin the world community for years. The worrisome WMD is being developed by states still shrouded in secrecy (Israel, North Korea) and the various states/organizations willing to use WMD . . . or any weapon for that matter to resolve political disputes.

It does not surprise me that Bush would try to claim credit. Neither do the same people who were once blaming the drop in economy which coincided with Bush's term to either a previous term or forces which Bush has no control of, who are now claiming Bush deserves credit for this. I bet if I gave Bush a blank world map he wouldn't even know where Libya is.

Well I don't think we can say that actually. It is widely believed that when Israel first started developing it's nuclear weapons they did not do so with the consent of the Americans or even the direct knowledge of the Americans. They kept their facilities secret and developed weapons with the help from France mainly IIRC. They had some inspections every once in a while with American delegates which actually visited facilities that weapons grade uranium was being produced but Israel managed to keep the sensitive areas disguised or hidden, and only display dummy equipment and false panels to the inspectors to throw them off. Perhaps now after American Israeli ties became much stronger since that time they could possibly be collaborating but that would only be a theory as of now.

You're confused. Its whatever makes Bush looks good and any point in time. Gaddafi giving up WMDs = welcome the dictator with open arms. Saddam not having WMDs = kill him for being a dictator.

Ladies and Gents, this is the result of massive pressure, international sanctions, isolation, the threat of war, and the dogged determination of the United States and United Kingdom to rid the world of WMDs and outlaw regimes. Once again, while the French and Germans go about countering every American/British initiative, the US and her natural ally end up being the bigger men.
