I am now of legal voting age, and find myself very closely alligned with the policies of the Libertarian platform... What i am asking is for others input on the candidates that are running, as i do not yet know details about the specific candidates... essentially, who do YOU like, and why?

18 or so... hmmmm just vote for anyone... they all lie about everything...;) The idea is to get involved in the process... go visit the local Congressman... lets see.... Cunningham... I think... go over there and talk to the folks... pick their brains without telling em you're a libertarian... On here if you ain't a conservative you're a liberal...

Lilbertarian politics is like socialism, it's a great idea but would be a disaster in implimentation.

Actually, I would like to see less liberal social engineering, and less conservative neocon neonazism too. The problem is this is at odds with what I believe about government working for the common welfare (not welfare as it has become known) I think that people who can should work, and that an honest toilet attendent is more deserving of respect than a crooked CEO. I also know that that crook is going to get all the benefits of power, position, and wealth, while many would like to institute a system by which the janitors children die if they get sick, because those damn government people arent taking their hard earned cash, and the crook deserves the money more anyway. Many call for charity to take care of that. Well, there is more greed than charity in America. Most people in America today don't know who their neighbors are, and if they were starving wouldnt take the time to bring over a loaf of bread. So I have two irreconcilable views about libertarians views as I understand them (which I admit may be incomplete). If people were more generous in nature and in fact, then I could much more easily accept views I often see promoted here regarding taxation etc.

I fail to see how a 2 party system has anything to do with Libertarian policial philosophies, which is what I was commenting on? The Libertarian positions are great on paper, much like socialism but we are not an altruistic society and many of the ideas in the libertarian position would be an absolute failure. Anyone voting Libertarian should do it as a protest vote as long as they have no chance of actually winning.

i like a lot of their ideas (like privatizing a lot of programs the government currently runs) but some of them seem like closet anarchists to me.

Actually with each Election more and more Libertarians are winning elections. So far I have not seen any incredulous bad press coming from the way they are performing in their Office positions compared to the traditional Democrat & Republican seats.

Or... If you're not a left-wing elitist freak, you're a warmongering, extreme right-wing, bible-thumping conservative.

You could say that about any idealogy really. Would you really want to live in a world run only by Republicans? Or only Democrats? Just because a libertarian gets elected doesn't mean everything would suddenly change.

hombre is right; every political idealogy requires various concessions in order to work well in a society; libertarianism is no exception. it is, however, much more logical and appropriate than the other major political idealogies...
