The OP is somehow news? I've found that pretty much everyone that has already defined their political box doesn't really pay attention to what the other side has to say, whether conservative, liberal, or independent. If someone feels they already know the answer, they're not interested in learning, just interested in being "right". Because of this, they tend to surround themselves with like minded thinkers, or at least they don't typically discuss these types of topics on a regular basis. I never discuss politics with my parents because if anything paints a democrat in any kind of a positive light, they discard it immediately as a lie. If something portrays a democrat negatively, they instantly believe it without any thought about credibility. I have a sister with MS that has had huge issues with insurance, and my parents were still opposed to the part of the health care plan that prevents insurance companies from denying coverage for per-existing conditions. For them, it is impossible for any good to come from a democrat. That's how some people are. There are many on these forums that think there is no such thing as something good coming from a democrat. There are others that think the same about republicans. It is hard for people to get past the party label and to start evaluating ideas purely on their merit, rather than the letter next to the name of the person who proposed it. People have a natural tendency to believe something that supports their current opinion while being extremely skeptical of anything that opposes it.
