Just came across the news wires.

Reuters link

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff, Lewis Libby, was charged with perjury, obstruction of justice and making false statements in a five-count indictment returned on Friday by a grand jury investigating the leak of a covert CIA operative's identity.
Libby resigns
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The White House says Cheney aide Lewis Libby has resigned. His resignation has been accepted. More details to follow.

Rove apparently not to be indicted (yet). He'll continue to be investigated.

Too bad if convicted he will go toa country club prison. Would be much more entertaining to see him get dropped into a real prison somewhere. With a nickname like Scooter you know he would be popular.

Its a shame that Rove, who appears to have just as big of a role in this as Libbly, might walk without anything.

If he had the same role as libby then he would be indicted. Remember we are seeking justice here, not a witch hunt.

If the President wanted to get at the truth he could have easily declared Rove and Libby enemy combatants.
They would crumble under torture at Gitmo.

Wasn't Padilla a US citizen?

But he switched sides and became a enemy combatant, I don't think Rove and Libby have done that, yet. Plus there is a difference with having been charged with a dirty bomb plot and this.

Uh. Read the news lately? The President can declare anyone he wants an enemy combatant. Including US citizens. And he has already done so.

They are seeking a witch hunt.

They've got nothing on Rove, that's pretty obvious.

Ah, but that's what this whole thing has been. From the sounds of it, there aren't any indictments about this so-called "leak", but rather a perjury charge. So what it means in the end is that all this whining from the hardcore left over this has proved to be nothing.

I wonder how some people are going to be able to handle the news that there wasn't anything to the so-called "leak" BS. I suppose though, that they are used to that whole emotional rollercoaster. They get themselves all worked into a tizzy and then bounced back to reality. It's happened the last couple election cycles, and it's happened every time they've tried to "get" Bush. I'm almost starting to feel sorry for them. Well, ok, maybe not! :D

BTW, nothing has been handed down yet so everything is still speculation.

A flesh wound...it seems to be, but I'll reserve judgement until I read the indictment.

Fitzgerald better have something real good if he intends to prove that Libby intentionally misled the Grand Jury. That's pretty hard to prove.

That would be hillarious if some of these Bushies ended up in prison, got gangraped, and ended up dying of AIDS. Imagine Carl Rove dying of AIDS after a guy named Big Gay Al got him.

Nah, it won't happen. They'll end up in posh country club prisons. Then again, they probably won't get convicted of anything at all and even if they do, they'll probably just end up paying fines or being put on probation or house arrest.

I'd say this is far, far worse than Clinton getting blow jobs in the Oval Office. The outting of the CIA agent put a couple people's lives in danger, damaged our national security, and counts as treason in my book. Perhaps Bush and his gang should be sent to the gallows. Nah--I'd rather see them branded as traitors, their assets seized, and have them locked down in a maximum security prison for a life sentence. Now that would be funny. Of course, for the worst president in the history of the nation, the president who gleefully oversaw the beginning of the transformation of the nation into a third world country, even that punishment might not be enough.

The fringe left. Same people who have been running around saying this would be a Merry Fitzmas. You know, the morons on the far left. Similar to the morons on the far right, but don't shower as often. ;)

Well, they'll spin it with the help of their media. I can guarantee you'll hear little about this indictment having nothing to do with the "The Leak".

BTW, nothing has been handed down yet so everything is still speculation.

True enough.

Yeah that is just a hilarious vision. A guy getting gang raped, getting aids, and dying from it.

Some of you people need help, I suggest sedatives and a few therapists. The idea anybody would even come up with a vision of that much less find it hilarious is scary on many levels.

Riiiigggghhhhtttt.....lying about who told you information that could have comprimised national security has nothing to do with an investigation into who leaked information that could have comprimised national security.

Buy a clue. You don't seem to have been given one at birth.

It's just as funny as destroying someone's entire life's career to get even with her husband...

So you are saying that the democrats fueled both Fitzgerald and the grand jury to partake in a witch hunt and come down with indictment/s? From all accounts, this investigation has been followed to the letter of the law. A perjury indictment is much harder to prove than giving false statements. Sounds like they heard the evidence and testimonies of all involved and have only come up with Libby. If this was a true witch hunt, Rove would have been indicted already, but he was/has not been. None of us were privied to their conversations so that is why we have grand juries, to find out the truth. I accept whatever they come down with.

How do you prove that was intentional? If I walk in with a notebook that says "John Doe first told me about Jane" and then, when queried by the Grand Jury, I say "Jack first told me about Jane" how do you prove that I didn't simply make a mistake in testimony as opposed to intentionally misleading them to hinder the investigation?

Think quick - You are 0/2 in debate during the last week.

The word on the streets is that they have Libby's dated notes, in which he specifically states that VP Cheney told him about Plame's CIA status, but he testified to the grand jury that he didn't know she was a CIA agent until he heard it from a reporter months later.

If that's true (obviously it's just rumor at this point), it seems to me to be very clear proof of perjury, and likely of obstruction of justice as well.
