Lian-Li V1200 vs V1100 vs Anything Else?

I am just doing some preliminary browsing of current cases to get an idea of what I want for my next system. Currently, I have a Lian-Li PC65 or something around there. It is a good sized case and I like it. So I decided to check Lian-Li's current website and I saw a lineup of all new models that come with wheels / etc.

My question to you guys: Is there a difference between the 1200 and 1100 besides the exterior look? It looks like the 1200 has some sort of weird mesh on it. Also, would you consider these big or small cases? I don't know the MM for my current lian-li so I am having trouble matching sizes in my head.

The trend in my current pcs is heading towards very small, but still versatile cases. My current case only has a video card in it, 2 hds and 1 optical drive. My new system will most likely only have 1 optical drive, 1 hd, and a video card. I really like the insulation and the wheels on the 1200/1100s.

Also, based on the information I've put here, feel free to point me to any reviews or information regarding other cases that are really nice and compete well with these Lian-Li's.

Thanks!

Terrible review. You can manage the cables and wires much better in the V1000 than they make out.

It actually a good case for wire management.

I did a search for Lian-Li but very few threads mentioned the 1200 in comparison to the 1100. Mostly just people buying the 1100...

Plus I'm willing to take any suggestions for better cases into account.

I'm interested in hearing from people that are using the 1100 case. How quiet is it with the stock fans, what do you have inside the case, about how much did it set you back, etc...

I could have started a new thread, but I didn't feel like hearing how it was the 1 billionth thread about lian-li cases...

well the 1200 is longer than the 1000 and 1100 because its an e-atx case. the dowside is its alittle bigger but it does allow you to install an e-atx board if you wanna build a dual cpu system. ie two opterons or xeons. id go v1100 cuz i like low noise. then again im not gonna spend this much money on a case even tho they are all very nice.

Nice info thermalrock... I'm hunting for a new case to replace my cramped Antec. I'm limited as far as case height goes to under 22". That rules out many of the full ATX cases, and those that are of the taller variety. The number of drives I have also rules out the smaller cases, since I already have eight drives (four hard drives, three optical and one floppy) with plans to add another optical soon. I'm also looking for black cases since all my external drives have black faces. The system is my PVR as well as game rig, so the less noise it generates the better. When I do move to a new case, I'll be changing the heatsink on my processor. I have a Thermalright SLK-948U and 90mm fan just itching to get installed. Hopefully, that will also help to reduce the noise level coming from under the desk...

ive read the v1100 is very quiet. ive never seen one tho but my friends v1200 black was pretty quiet up until he installed his 10k atlas scsi drive. since the v1100 is the noise dampened version of the v1000 im gonna assume its even quieter and you should be very happy with the noise level using stock fans i cant say how much quieter tho.

The v1100 can't be any worse, or close to, the Antec case I have now. While it's not a leaf blower, it does have 4 case fans, the video card fan, and processor fan all going at the same time. I'm hoping that the combination with the 120mm case fans in the 1100 as well as the new hsf combo that I'll be going with will make for less noise. The next step will be to replace the cooling on the 6800GT to something that does as good (if not better) at lower db...

well if you go v1100 black youll at least know you got the prettiest case (sadly a lot) money can buy. try arctic cooling nv silencer it works at 1 sone. thats rather quiet.

*also blows the air the gpu heats right out of the case which eliminates hot air recycling and keeps your case cooler.*

That's the cooler I had on my 9800 Pro until it was replaced by the 6800GT card... When I do the case, I just might 'have to' order the AC item too... Since I'll be tearing down the system anyway, might as well change out the cooling on the video card.

I own the v1100B (black version)... I can safely say it has the best design, highest quality, and prettiest looks of any case I've encountered. It really is the Ferrari of computer cases, but you certaintly pay for it. In my mind, however, there really is no substitute.

Besides, your case is a component that is relatively future-proof (besides a the mirage of BTX waaaay out on the horizon), so why not...

I've already confirmed that's the one I'll need... Put it onto my newegg list along with the case. Wish the other vendor I would have used had both items in stock. If they had, it would have come out cheaper than newegg for the same shipping time frame (ground from the other is only 2 days out). My other vendor/source doesn't carry lian-li items, so that's out completely.

I'll probably be placing the order before the end of the week, so that I can get everything by Friday and put it all together over the weekend. If it performs even close to as it should, I should notice the sound level difference right away. Having the different cooling on the video card will also help the sound level. I already have a use for my current case, so that won't go to waste or be put aside and never get used again.

do you buy any chance know if i could put that thing on a 6600gt? if i remember right there is no silencer that specifically states it can be used on 6600 series but i want the air out of my case immediatly and i dont play so the working video processor on the 6600gt will help me more than the doom frames of the 6800.

Yep, Lian Li's use Adda's; really good quality fans. If you find them too loud at 12v they should respond well to undervolting.

The mesh front/back of the v1000/1200 does alot for cooling, but not a lot for sound dampening. As for the v1100, the insulation itself (2 mm foam) is superb--it covers all the walls (including the top, of the case, and even disappears behind the mobo tray. All in all, it helps to a drastic degree--you can imagine how the sound from all those whizzing electrical components gets soaked up by the foam rather than bounce around inside a bare metal box. The front door further dampens sound (it's even got foam seals around it to keep sound in) although if you frequently use your drive bays, it can get a little tiresome. Even with it open, sound is still incredibly low. I would wager it's easily the quietest case on the market-- and I built my mom's machine in the well-respected Antec Sonata. I was honestly astounded when I opened the box (which, ironically, has the word "Value" scrawled on it as if it were the best marketing point) at how perfect the construction of this case was. The two 120mm case fans are whisperers. Couldn't ask for a better inclosure. After owning this puppy, it makes all other cases look like gaudy pieces of plastic and tin.

On your Lian 1100 what kind of latch is on the front panel? Is it a magnet type of latch like the Coolermaster?
Also I plan on running a 6800 ultra video card. Will I have any problems with heat since there is no top holes in the case to let the rising heat out. And is Tagan a good pwr supply or should a person stick with the OCZ 520W even though it is probably a little noisier and comes with a long 5 year warranty?

And finally how hard is it to change out all my white bezels to black? I'm running an Iomega super DVD and a second Toshiba Cd Rom drive. Always have had white stuff.

thanks

FYI I have the OCZ Powerstream 520 PSU. It is one of, if not the most quietest PSU have ever owned

I like what I've been hearing about the OCZ but I guess it doesn't quite fit the 1000 and the 1100 cases. If I move up to the Lian 2000 series...more money but won't be a problem. Looks like the Tagan offers extra long power cables for these wide cases.
