I recently purchased the Lian-Li V1000 with a window, and an extra 120mm fan hole and a floppy drive all for 270 bucks. When it came it looked so awesome, but...

It's loud. First thing I noticed when I turned on the fan was "damn this bitch is loud as f." My dad said the same thing.

The "awesome" passive cooling holes aren't that awesome. My CPU temps were 35 - 37 idle, 42 - 45 load, no OC, before my mobo broke and had to be RMA'd. Anyway, I either applied the AS5 wrong (I did use too much, like 5 grains of rice), or the case just isn't cutting it.

The hole at the top of the case can't house anything bigger than 120x25. So I can't get a 120x38 panaflo up there. Not anything too bad, but an inconveniance.

Expensive. Set me back so much money. I regret having spent the extra money on the case rather than the video card or whatnot. Oh well. I still like the case, I just don't think it was worth the money :(

Look at it this way; that case is going to last a lot longer then any video card ever would...

As for the noise, try undervolting the fans. Lian Li uses Adda fans which are good in my experience, but I haven?t used any of their 120mm fans.....

Ahh yes, the 120mm AddAs. 66cfm, 38dba. I wish I could undervolt them, but first of all I don't know how (this is a serious setback) and secondly ONE of my case fans are 3-pin. The other AddA came as a 4-pin (since it was the front intake fan, closer to the PSU) and the Panaflo I bought is 4-pin (too stupid to pick 3-pin).

I'll probably eventually replace them with just quieter fans, but first I wanna run out to Home Depot to see if they have any dryer ducting. I wanna make good use of one of my extra fan holes and see if I can get a simple duct mod to the rear fan to work. All this once I get back to Cleveland (in NJ right now) and once my mobo comes back from Monarch RMA.

And Operandi, you make a good point in lifting my hopes. I guess BTX is the future, and the case itself is very sturdy, probably to last me the next 10 years.

I think the V1100b that I have is worth every penny I spent on it (about 220,000 of them). The case fans in it are damned quiet, so I can tell that my processor fan IS the source of the extra sound/noise. I'm working on that though (new HS and fan arrived tonight) and hope to have it quiet AND cool, without going the liquid route.

Hey Akira why don't you give the duct mod a whirl? With the exhaust fan pointing inward, it should quiet things down a bit. The thing is you don't have an extra fan hole like I do :p but those holes should help?

Put holes into my case where they were not before???

I'm about to go with an XP-120 HS and Enermax 120mm fan... Not sure if I'll set the fan to suck or blow yet, it really depends on how close to the rear venting hole it ends up being. I'll probably mount the heatsink to the mobo and then reinstall the mobo before installing the fan. That way, I'll be able to 'test fit' the fan on it and decide.

BTW, I'm not overcocking a single item inside my case... Which might have something to do with my current temps too... Oh, and room air temp is no more than 68F, since it IS winter... When I'm not here, during the day, it's set to go no more than 60F...

Well we have ours set to 72 in the winter, 65 when no one's home. But anyway, you should probably set the CPU fan to suck since that usually gives you better temps. Also when I said "holes" I meant those passive cooling holes.

Trying to duct to those holes would be difficult at best with the V1100 case...

As for the great 'suck/blow' debate... I'm going to decide WHEN I install the XP-120...

I still don't think you know what I'm talking about. You know those big long dryer ducts? Get the thinnest one, cut out about a foot of it, zippy tie it to the holes in the fans, then all the way to the exhaust (which will now be intake) fan, so basically you have a tube connecting directly to the cold air outside. Anyway, since your exhaust will be used up, the little holes will then act as passive exhaust (which will probably be unhealthy). In my case (no pun), however, I have an extra exhaust hole/fan, so I'm set.

I think you've been sucking on too much 'exhaust'... My system is almost as quiet as I want, and almost as cool as I want. Very soon, it should be at the same temps it is now, or a nudge lower, at lower db... Why would I want to n**** rig up something else when I have no need to??? Besides, I'm NOT going to try and force another case fan into my system.

The V1000 and V1100 are two DIFFERENT cases.

Oh yeah. I thought you had the V1200. Oops.

EDIT: Wow this whole time I've been talking to you thinking you had the V1200. Shi7 dude.
