Lian Li Smart Fan Controller?

I've got the new Lian Li PC-A77 case. It comes with a Smart Fan Control. The controller has an HDD Led wire that is suppose to monitor HDD activity. However, it never changes. In other words, when I'm not using my HDD the little spinning disc is always spinning. The case also has another standard HDD Led attached to a red LED.

So how is this fan controller monitoring HDD activity if it never changes and is there any way to hook up two HDD Led wires so I can use the traditional HDD Led and the HDD Led that comes with the Smart Fan Controller?

With the fan controller, have you tried connecting the activity lead in the opposite direction? i.e. reversing the polarity?

I thought about that but I didn't want to blow anything up! lol! I've got the red wire going into the positive on the mobo.
