Lian-Li PC-65 PSU question.

I purchased this case yesterday and want to know if I will have to remove the bottom intake fan on my TruePower 430 PSU or invert the PSU when I install it? Some people said I will be fine because Lian-Li fixed the issue by cutting a space for dual-fan PSUs now but I am not sure if this case has that "fix".

Your case should have 4 thumbscrews around the location for the PS. If you take those off, you'll find that they hold on a mounting plate for the PS.

Use your regular PS screws to mount the Antec to this plate. Then slide it into the case. You should orient this so the intake fan is pointing down into the case. Now use the thumbscrews to hold the assembly in place, and you're done!

The thumbscrews are not relevant to the poster's question. My LL has the thumbscrew setup, but won't accept a dual-fan PSU without removing the bottom fan grill. Other people have newer versions (also with thumbscrews) that will accept the PSU.

Either way, it doesn't matter much. If you've got the older model, you can remove the fan grill temporarily and put it back once the PSU is in. A mild PITA, but not a big deal. Still a great case.

there are several differences between the new lian lis and the old, most of which are noticable (this applies to the PC-60, also the black and windowed versions)

I probably have missed some but the ones I'm pointing out are the most obvious (someone please point out anything I'm missing or anything that's wrong

-the switch for the three-speed fan bus is now sticking out of the front bezel, instead of being hidden

-the side panel is flat, with no indent to help you slide it open. It looks better cosmetically, but it is slightly harder to take off

-there are apparati for locking the side panel and/or the mobo tray with a small padlock

-two usb 2.0 ports, not four usb 1.1 ports

-front intake filter is a metal bracket encasing a plastic filter. This filter is IMO a better one that was previously supplied

-top fan grill (some come with a fan installed, mine didn't)

-the thumb screws are compatable with both phillips and flat head screwdrivers, not just phillips

I bet there are a ton of other things I forget, but that is what I remember seeing

also, a comment on the stock fans.

they suck. They are the lowest speed adda's there are (I think)

I would never buy a lian li and use it stock. they were made to be modded. I don't even think they perform well stock.

First, you need to replace the fans with high speed sunons or ys tech (panaflos if you're ears are sensitive)

then cut the top blowhole to 12cm, and fix a fan in there

cut out the integrated grill for the rear of the mobo tray

make another 8cm hole underneath the rear mobo-tray fan (they leave just enough room for two, but only install one)

cut out 2-4 92mm holes on the left side panel for intake (lower left corner of course, by the vid card

then (I haven't gotten around to this one yet), you can try and mod the bottom front to accept 92mm fans instead of 80mm
there is enough room, but it would require a bit of tinkering around

I never use the filter, I think they cut airflow too much and I don't want to clean them

I haven't touched the front bezel, and even though I would like to open up those front intakes (esp. if I put in 92mm fans in there), the alu on the front bezel is much thicker and I don't want to ruin it either.

then you will have the perfect cool case

edit oh yeah, and the new one of course will accept dual fan psus no problem

Sounds good about the PSU, thanks for the information. About modding the case? Probably going to leave it stock for now and worry about CPU cooling (slk800 or sk-7)

I have the exact same PSU and case, you WILL have to remove the bottom fan grill before you can install the PSU. You'll then have to refit the grill whilst the PSU is in the case, its a little fiddlely but take your time and it'll be fine.

I will?? That sucks. I was hoping the "newer" versions of the case didn't have a problem with a PSU with 2 fans.

when you get the case just look for the differences I noted above to see if it is the newer revision or not

edit/

and as far as I know, all of the PC-6x line are the same, except for color (silver/black), window, and excluding the PC-6xxx's

Same for me as stated above. I had to remove the lower fan grill to install my True Power 430 into my Lian Li PC60. Not too much of a hassle to reinstall once the PSU is installed though.
