I have just installed a athlonXP1800 in my somewhat new PC60 case and have been playing around with the CPU and case fans trying to balance out temps and low noise. My temp probe broke a couple of weeks ago and i am currently relying on MotherboardMonitor reading of the temps.

When using a alpha8045 and a 40 CFM fan (panaflo H1a), I am getting a CPU reading of 42C and about 45C on load. I swapped out a 24CFM panaflo (which i have read of people using) and turned the system off when it went over 50C-> not good.

My question is: If anybody has a similar setup out there it help to know a reference set of temps to indicate if these temps are reasonable or not. A buddy has a PC70 and other than a couple more case fans he has a 38C reading from a digidoc with the same processor, heatsink and the 24CF fan.

Please no suggestions for Deltas, I don't OC (at least yet) and am really trying to quiet down the system. I am starting to think I didn't do that good a job mounting the Alpha HSF but i just got the last patch of Arctic silver off my desk and my hands.....i don't want to do that again this week. ;)

any info would be appreciated

Do you have case fans installed? That can make a world of difference for many people. That may be why your buddy is getting the temps he is getting. Basically, the Alpha was designed to SUCK air off of the heatsink (so you should set it up that way if you haven't). However, if you have the same air running inside the case, that does nothing to cool the processor. All you're doing is recycling the same hot air over and over and over...just moving it around the case.

sorry, didn't mention it....standard fan set up in the lian-li: two intake and one exhaust below the PSU and the alpha is sucking not blowing: all panaflow L1a's....buddy is using those or PCP&C silencers (virtually same fan)
